Got an answer?

I have a friend who loves to get into religious debates, and he brought up an interesting point by quoting Epicurus. I know how I replied, but I'm curious to see how everyone else would react to this argument.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?

Then he is not omnipotent.

Is he able, but not willing?

Then he is malevolent.

Is he both able and willing?

Then whence cometh evil?

Is he neither able nor willing?

Then why call him God?

And..... GO. Best answer gets a cookie.

God is willing and able, but "evil" comes from our own sin nature and propensity toward sin. Now God gives us free will and He must in order to seperate those who do and do not truly want and choose to love Him. In order to determine who truly desires to love Him, there MUST be an opportunity to NOT choose Him so that only those who honestly and sincerely desire to know Him and make that their number 1 priority will spend eternity with Him.

God is willing and able to protect people from suffering. Adam and Eve were protected from death/suffering until they essentially told God to get lost, that they wanted the world to revolve around them.

So God stepped aside and gave them what they wanted. As a result they and their descendants, us, have to deal with suffering and death for this life.

I actually answered this earlier today. My view is that God is both willing and able, however simply having the ability to, and willingness to prevent evil, does not dictate action. This, of course, as stated before, returns to the argument of free will, and allowing we humans to experiance the consequinces of our sin.

People who love to debate about God are trying to draw U away from tha faith or your faith. U must avoid them, and this is spoken of many times. 1Timothy 1:4, Titus 3:9-11, 2Timothy 2:23, Proverbs 26:24, Proverbs 14:7. Some things we aren't supposed to know or be asking. We should ask Him who knows all things. 1Corinthians 13:9&10. What your friend is doing; is asking U to take a bite of tha fruit of tha knowledge of good and evil all over again. Don't be another Adam. My name is Brian, and I was wondering what all kinds of cookies U have??? I like soft cookies and chocolate chip. lol ;o)

Oh yes also read 1Corinthians 13:12 Whoever says that God is not who He says He is; is a liar. Let God be true and every man a liar. God is all knowing, powerful, and present. He is everywhere in all and through all.

The Father does whatever he wants to do.

I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.

16It does not, therefore, depend on mans desire or effort, but on Gods mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19One of you will say to me: Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will? 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, Why did you make me like this?h 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrathprepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory 24even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

God is willing and able, but bound by His own word.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

After giving man dominion over the earth God could not "control" or have dominion over it. That is why Jesus came, to give dominion back to man since man yielded it to Satan. The bible says Jesus says he has authority because he is the "son of man".

John 5:26-27 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

Matthew 9:6-8 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And he arose, and departed to his house. But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

Luke 24:7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

In Mark 11:22...Jesus tells us that we are to say to the mountain, believe and not doubt and we shall have whatever we say. The bible tells us that no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper and every tongue that rises against thee thou shalt condemn. How do weapons come? By words...God spoke everything into existence, God does not change and the tongue holds the power of life and death. It is through our words, in the Name of Jesus, that His will is done on earth as it is in heaven. God has done everything he is ever going to do. Jesus said it is FINISHED!!! Jesus paid the price for our sin, he took ALL sickness and disease upon himself...Psalm 103 tells us to forget not ALL his benefits....But WE must declare them, WE must SPEAK THEM INTO EXISTENCE!!!

Hallelujah! Glory to God who has given us VICTORY in Christ Jesus!!! Hallelujah!!!
