Anybody else have trouble sleeping?

I've never been a good sleeper. Not even when I was a kid. I would wake up in the middle of the night and jump on my bed for a looong time to wear myself out before laying down to try sleep again.

And it's not that I don't need sleep, because I do. Like right now I'm exhausted. But I only slept for like 30 minutes and then couldn't fall back asleep again. It's not usually this bad. I guess maybe it's the combination of miscarriage hormones + broken heart. I've seriously only slept like the equivalent of 8 hours these past 4 nights put together.

Ugh. So tired.

I don't know what else to try. I have a baby lullaby cd that I sometimes use for this purpose. I figured that if lullabies help babies sleep then they might help adults sleep too. And it does help some. But I don't want to listen to baby lullabies right now because that will just remind me that I'm not pregnant anymore and make me start thinking again that I killed my baby. Which I know isn't true but the thought will probably linger in my mind for awhile anyway.

I need some insomniac friends so that I have people to talk to or hang out with in the middle of the night.

I don't like to recommend medication as a general rule, but you might go to the doctor (if you can...I know you have some insurance issues) and see about getting some sleep aids.

If you can't do that, try taking one or two benedryl capsules (cheaply available over-the-counter, and very safe for most people...but read the precautions before taking them) about 45 minutes before you plan to go to bed. That's what my doctor recommended for me when I was having trouble sleeping. My insomnia isn't an ongoing problem, but sometimes I'll just get in a pattern of not sleeping and need something to break that pattern...of course, I'm one of those people who can be completely knocked out by just one benedryl!

Thanks, pianogal. Benadryl does have that affect on me too, but I hate resorting to medication... I may have to, though.

Hey fellow insomniac! =]

I've never been a great sleeper. And I started prescription sleep aids in the eighth grade. Been on and off ever since. If you go the medicinal route, Ambien CR is really fantastic. I felt the product worked great.

That being said, I am currently not on medication. I don't have anything against seeking aid when ill or injured or anything. I just don't have insurance or a desire to have normal sleep patterns.

I stay awake for days on end. Power nap for 20 minutes here and there. Go a few days without sleep entirely, then sleep about five hours one night. Seems to be the cycle as of late.

I get more done at night. My focus tends to be better. And I'm outside all day working on a farm. So I don't have to worry about falling asleep at a desk.

So if you want a late night friend, I am here for you! =]

I have had bad insomnia also since I was a kid. My mom would check on me at 1 AM sometimes when I was 5 years old and I would be wide awake, and I remember even when I was 2 and 3 I would be awake well past when everyone else went to sleep. We lived in a trailer and I shared a room with my brother and sister, and my parents were about 30 feet away in the living room. There would be times when I wouldn't sleep at all as a teenager, so I'd be up a good 40+ hours at a time before I would get any sleep. Needless to say, growing up I never had ANY fits at naptime...and I still don't :) I will pray for you! Hopefully things improve for you soon.
