First Dates: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Alright, folks. I have been a member for ages but haven't been active in quite some time. CDFF dropped me a line and reminded me I had an account. So. Yes. I am back. With all my craziness.

Something I am always curious about are peoples interpretations of First Dates. What makes one good? What makes one go terribly awry? What makes you laugh and giggle and think, "Okay, this person is definitely worth a second date" vs. "It would take a lobotomy for me to go on a second date with this person".

So here I am, asking all you lovely ladies and gents for your best and worst date stories. And also for your ideas on what you think a good first date would be.

You never know, you could be offering great suggestions for those folks about to go on a first date.

One of my favorite first dates was way back when I was still in high school. I was a senior in high school and this person had graduated a year or so before. We were broke. Their car was a clunker. I was terribly awkward. It was raining.

It was the day after Christmas. Things were...not so great in the home life. We ended up going to CVS and spending three hours trolling the aisles and reading Christmas cards to one another. I remember all the snowglobes, all the lights, the rain beating against the roof.

Afterwards, we went to Dennys and just...talked. We swapped crazy stories, met some crazy folks, shared food and drinks with one another.

It was perfect. Absolutely perfect in its simplicity and oddness.

I don't think I will ever forget that day. Or how I felt. All those years ago and I could describe the night to you in perfect detail. I can close my eyes and tell you everything. And I wouldn't be able to stop smiling.
