What am I do to?
Posted : 11 May, 2012 12:44 PM

I lost my job back in March and I applied to go on state run health insurance. I just found out that I can't go on it because I do not have children. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. I have been applying for a new job and haven't even had a call back for an interview.

Is there anything I can do? I am so upset right now. They let me go on food stamps but I can't get health insurance.

Keep looking and applying for jobs. I was fired a couple years ago and probably sent out well over 100 applications and resumes, during which time I had at most five or ten interviews. Set a daily goal for yourself and keep going after every opportunity you can.

I'd agree. I don't know the job situation in America, but it's very difficult to find work at the moment over here, which unfortunately means employees can be very choosy and pay very little.

Do you have a talent you could put to use? My ex. g/f does little, erm, fabric-y type things (you can tell I'm a guy can't you!) such as embroided book bags and cushions. After doing it for several months she's got repeat orders and a growing order book - enough that she's had some business cards made.

They reckon that in a recession, more people go self-employed, so it's worth having a long hard look at what you can do or offer that others would be willing to pay for.

@dkj255 I'm not real sure what talents I have. I'm big into knitting, crochet and sewing, but I'm still a novice at all them. I'm into music but I'm getting back into it after 10+ years, so I'm back at the beginning level. I'd love to write either music for piano and/or clarinet or a Christian fiction novel, but my whatever music I write sounds like my 1 year niece is banging on the piano or whatever, and as for the novel, I can never figure out how to work it out.

I can't say for certain having never heard your music but remember that we are often our own worst critic. When I was younger I wished for all the world that I could draw. To be able to put on paper what I saw in my head...that's a skill I truly wished I had. Sadly whenever I tried I thought 'this looks like something a child would do in kindergarten with crayons!' and just give up for a while. family and friends told me it looked great and I had talent but hey they where family and friends, they where just trying to be supportive right?

After getting straight A's in many art classes in college though I finally had to accept that sometimes I was the only person who didn't like what I drew.

As temperamental, eccentric and infamously emotionally unstable as many of the worlds most renowned artists have reportedly been I wouldn't be the least bit surprised but what many of them hated works that have come to be known in our era as timeless masterpieces.

Thank God for your hardship; for, "all things work together for the good, for those who love God and are called according to his plans".

Don't you trust God?

First, I don't think faith is a issue here. Second, I would say you should continue looking for a job but also maybe think about moving to places that have higher percentages of employment. But before you really move somewhere do your research.. you have two of the greatest tools in front of you.. your Bible and the internet. I don't know why you'd want public healthcare (I could see that hurting you in the long run) but I would also suggest staying out of the big movements right now like going to college and acquiring more debt thinking your pay it for when you get the job. First your not guaranteed to pass and second your not guaranteed a job after you get your degree. I have many friends who continued to go to college but after they got their degrees, they still couldn't find a job. So most went back for another degree or moved back in with their parents. The biggest thing I suggest is DON'T GET A GUY. I respect your situation and I pray it works out but a Guy would just complicate things. Yes, it sounds like a Guy with a job could support you but in the long term if you became dependent on that man. He'll have the final "say so" every time and your be trapped to just agree with whatever he wants.. and because your be unhappy with that assuming from what you said about your past relationships, the relationship will probably end up breaking up or divorce.. anyway basically it's more problems for you and whoever that Guy would be then it's worth. I hope my advice was helpful for you. God bless.. I had more but my battery is dying and I don't want to make this too long.. you may not even like my advice LOL
