A Marriage Commitment: What should it be like???

A Marriage Commitment should be like a healthy human body!

I'm sure some of you might wonder what I'm referring to...so I'll explain:

Most of us have two hands when we're born (and also two feet, two eyes, two ears, and so forth). Anyway, most of us have two hands...and both of those hands are intended to be permanently united into the same body for life. Also notice that one of those hands is the dominant hand, which we usually write/sign our name with, and so forth. The other hand is the secondary hand which we usually use whenever we need more than one hand to do something...so in other words, this secondary hand is the "helper hand" so to speak. Even though both hands are equal in the sense that both of them are "hands", each hand has a different purpose.

My point: In a marriage, the dominant hand represents the man, while the secondary hand represents the woman. The man and the woman are both equal in the sense that each of them is a person, yet each one has a different purpose in the marriage. In God's sight, the man is responsible for being the main provider...and the woman is responsible for being a helper. Also notice that men and women are intended to be united as "one flesh" for life! That's why divorce usually hurts people so badly...because separating after you've been united is like having your body ripped in half!...OUCH!

I've never been married, so I've never been through a divorce...but I've witnessed my parents' divorce, so I know it's not fun at all. I have rather strong beliefs on the issue of divorce...and because of that, I will never enter into a serious relationship with anyone unless their beliefs are just as strong as mine. It doesn't matter how attractive a young lady appears physically...because if her beliefs about divorce and marriage aren't as strong as mine, then there's no way that I would ever consider marrying them.

I liked this two handed analogy very much -- until I got to the very last part and you said this, "because if her beliefs about divorce and marriage aren't as strong as mine, then there's no way that I would ever consider marrying them."

Perhaps it was a Freudian slip but using the word THEM is plural not singular, lol. This leads me to wonder if you are considering marrying more than one woman concurrently which would be polygamy or are you considering more than one woman as unsuitable to be your wife? -- lol :nahnah:

Trying to explain what a marriage commitment should be like is like trying to explain the cosmos! It reminds me of what Anais Nin said, "Truth is something which can't be told in a few words. Those who simplify the universe only reduce the expansion of its meaning".
