I need to get something out in the open and thought this would be a good way to do it. My apologies in advance if any of what I am about to share offends you, but understand this is my experience and may be different from yours.

So a while back someone asked if we as single people get anxious about eating out alone. My response was unconcerned because let's face it, single people get hungry too. Sometimes they like silence and want to eat out. Nobody is disputing the notion that life is better in community. I don't have a problem with eating alone. Today I had something at church this morning, and went out to get something to eat close to home. I got in line, as usual and ordered my food from one of my favorite cashiers. Then I sat down. This guy and his family were sitting across from me. I actually heard him say that it was weird for someone to eat alone, while he looked in my direction. That made me so mad. He must have been born with a wife and kids in tow, because he would never had the dilemma of being hungry and single.

How arrogant are we (in general) to say outloud every thought that pops into out heads. This is small, but hear me out people, we are passing judgment of others before we even know them! How would he know whether I was single or a widow? How is he to know my age to guess whether any kids are old enough not to live at home? How does he know that I was not meeting someone there? My worth and value come from God, not a person or spouse. I just wish that married people would remember that before they say stupid stuff like this, even if they thought nobody else heard them.

I wasn't even aware that this was a problem. Imo, it also goes to show that Americans have become so isolated/individualized that they have started to become separated from reality.

Also, when I first saw the title of the thread, I had to wonder what the topic was actually about.

Who cares what people think--if you're hungry then eat! During the summer I spend lot of time working away from home. I don't have the time to cook and/or set up dinner with a friend, so I'll often just head to a restaurant on my own. Sometimes people will give an occasional puzzled look--but they are entitled to an opinion. Let them have it
