Good ole GrandpaPosted : 22 Dec, 2010 09:53 PM'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch The pond was froze over & so was the branch. The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule. The kids were all home on vacation from school, And happier young folks you never did see-- Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV. |

Good ole GrandpaPosted : 22 Dec, 2010 10:04 PMWonderful story. Makes me think of when I'm at a restaurant and see families there where each child is staring at their phone or GameBoy and drowning everybody else out with their headphones... Some people just don't know how to enjoy other people any more. Or Christmas. |

Good ole GrandpaPosted : 23 Dec, 2010 06:24 PMThat reminds me of the March 2009 snowstorm we had here in GA. Our power was out for 3 days; fortunately we have a wood-burning fireplace, and we were able to keep one room fairly warm by hanging blankets over the open doorways to trap the heat in. We made pallets on the floor to sleep on because the bedrooms were FREEZING! Our propane grill also got used frequently during those days...we heated soup and made coffee and hot chocolate in a pot on the burner. But since we live out in the country, and have a well, we had no running water either...that wasn't so pleasant! The 3 days with no tv and no computer really gave us a chance to spend time together as a family, though. That part was very, very nice. |
