*** IMHO�It takes Much Courage and Humility for a person to �Admit� and �Confess� Ones own sins openly. I believe the Holy Spirit of the LORD has done a most marvelous work in Conviction of this man�s heart and most importantly his soul. I pray that Mr. Tchividjian will stand firm in God�s Grace and seek Counseling and the God centered Recovery Programs to help him and his wife through this. May his wife be given a forgiving heart as we are to forgive and may the LORD give her strength�in Jesus name�So be it!...Amen!...AMEN!!! X <>< O

The Holy Spirit does not CONVICT a believer,He corrects a person. The Holy Spirit CONVICTS the world of SIN,judgement and righteousness,becaues they do not believe into Yeshua.

I disagree with what you shared and this is why�lets look at just John 16:8 and then look at the Greek for the breakdown of the words reprove and convict as found in the KJV and NKJV�

I think the title of the post reveals the problem we (us) have: we unreasonably expect higher standards of others because of someone great related to them. We'll all stand before God and give an account of our own lives and it is our own personal relationship with Christ that will be examined, not our grandfather's, nor our childrens'. We're all human, we all have our 'thorns' to bear, so let's cut others some slack when they slip up, regardless of whether we think they should have done better for xyz reason.
@OP: this isn't a criticism of your post, but what I assume was the news headline implying his failing is somehow greater than Joe Bloggs doing the same.
