Church in America/China

Hey guys...

I am about to give a speech on American Christian Culture in a local church in China. It's a big topic and I like to hear other people's perspective. If you have some insight on what Christian Culture is like in America or China I would love to hear about it. Here are some questions to answer.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Christian Church in China, in America, or both?

What do you like and dislike about it?

What is the heartbeat of Christian culture in either or both countries? (What keeps it going?)

What are the similarities and differences in the two churches?

Please keep in mind that I don't want to bash the church on everything it is doing wrong. I understand the church has it's problems. If you have a negative comment, please add a positive to it.

Thanks for your time.

I know the church in China only by reputation. I know the church in America by experience. So a real comparison is limited.

The compromise that I understand to be a part of the Three Self Church (that is the state-sanctioned church, right?) is evident in many of our American churches. Where wearing a "Christian" label is a social benefit, many people are just Christian enough to claim the label -- but are not truly dedicated disciples of Christ.

If I understand, the Chinese underground church is extremely dedicated to Christ.

The American church has some people as dedicated, but as a whole it is not. Becoming a Christian does not cost most of us as much socially.

Now, there is probably no more generous group in all the world than the American church. We are blessed financially, and pass on much of that blessing, both to the downtrodden among us and those around the world.

But of sacrifice and efficacious prayer, we know far less than do our underground Chinese brethren.
