I, as one who was delivered from the devastating effects of alcohol 5.5 years ago, can't for the life of me understand how professing Christians can think this devilish concoction is ok for their consumption.

Their favourite passage from what I can tell is the one saying Jesus turned water into wine. NOWHERE does it say it was fermented, alcoholic wine. You have to make it say that you fit your theology.

In the Bible God warns against partaking of fermented wine.

Pr 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Isa 5:11, 22 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink

Isa 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

Pr 23:29-35 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

God said not to even look at it when it's fermenting, much less drink it. It perverts your judgment.

You know what happened to Noah when he drank it. Not good.

You can be the most beautiful woman physically, but if you're down w/ drinking hooch, I find you unattractive and unappealing from that point on.

An people wonder why the u.s. is in the flusher. It's because the standards have been set to include the lowest common denominator. God's commands separation. God doesnt' have a big tent where everyone gets in. Christianity is the most exclusive, divisive religion in history.

If anyone disagrees, it's not w/ me but w/ the Book.

I would like to hear why drinking alcoholic beverages is ok for Christians.

Again, nowhere do we have an indication it's fermented wine. But God did let us know what He thinks of alcoholic beverages. You wish it to mean alcoholic to fit your desires apparently cause it isn't saying what you're making it say.

The verse I posted does indicated that its fermented. The Hebrew word translated to wine is only ever used with fermented wine never with non fermented.

Ok, from the top...

He said: "Their favourite passage from what I can tell is the one saying Jesus turned water into wine. NOWHERE does it say it was fermented, alcoholic wine. You have to make it say that you fit your theology."

You are saying that the Jewish wedding celebrations did not use alcoholic wine? I'm sorry, but that is patently NOT TRUE. Scripture itself points us towards this understanding, even if we didn't know anything about the culture.

"Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink, but you have saved the best till now.

If the wine were not alcoholic, how could people have had "too much to drink"?

Stop it, man. You're making yourself look foolish. Wine everywhere, all the time, in the OT was alcoholic. Or, did you think that at the Last Supper Jesus drank non-alcoholic wine, too?

Your catholic bible, which is what the modern translations are based on, has blurred your vision. John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

Once again, nowhere does it say this is alcoholic. If it is, then God contradicted Himself and is a liar.

I can tell you what was drank at the Last Supper--juice

Mt 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

Mr 14:25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

Lu 22:18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

This lax Christian lifestyle occurs when people are fooled by slick marketing techniques telling them the new "bibles" are better. You do realize 99.5% of ALL manuscripts agree w/ the King James Bible, don't you. I suggest you research that before you argue a point w/ a corrupted text (Alexandrian Text.)

Right! I have many other phobias

I also have a tobacco phobia, a fornicating phobia, and a stealing phobia.

Are you so bold to say I'm wrong on these matters as well?

Perhaps if american Christianity would even make an attempt to fear God and hate evil, instead of embracing the world's ways at every corner, this nation wouldn't be in the flusher like it is. 1Pet 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

I have a sneaky suspicion most professing Christians agree w/ "Do what thou wilt is the whole of the law."

Rom 6:13-15 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Actually I was being serious, you have an irrational fear of alcohol because you lacked any control with it. Yet alot of people do have more control with it, thus it is not some sinful temptation they are falling in.

But I've never drank such in my life, and see no logic to it, except for possible medicinal purposes. I think if a person does not make their own or not supporting someone local, they waste money that God has entrusted them with. The fact is, the big alcohol corporations are after the youth with their advertising, peddling it to them, hoping they get addicted during their teens.

Anyways, you fail logic trying to argue something that is clearly in the Bible. Next up, we'll have someone on this forum that had a sex addiction, claiming should never have sex, even within marriage, because of the evils of it.

the 1611 KJV version contained the apocrypha and used marginal notes pointing to it in the non apocrypha texts. So i think my ESV bible is less Catholic then your KJV.
