Online/Long Distance Relationships

I think I've discovered something about myself since coming to this site and "meeting" several people. I'm not suited for online/long distance relationships. At least it appears to be that way. I'll be 54 next month. I was married for 25 years, so there was no such thing as "online" when I was last single. I met a young lady somewhere in my local neighborhood, asked her out, we talked, got to know each other, etc. That's they way things were.

So here's my question for anyone who wants to answer:

Do you believe older people like me have more difficulty with an online/distance relationship because we didn't "grow up" communicating like this online or is it just more of a personal issue?

Because of the way you grew up, you might find it a bit difficult to adjust. I am not as old as you, but i too found online dating a bit difficult. I guess it's because, growing up we knew what dating was and was not. With online dating, a lot has changed. Many things have been cut out.

Do what makes you comfortable. If you ask me, i think your way is the best.

Hello, I am a lot older than you are, also from a different culture originally, and although we did not have online relationships, there were pen pal type relationships, and yes, it would be nice to meet like in the old days and it still exist depending on where you live and congregate, some churches are small, more families, few singles, and usually many do not fellowship after church and so on so here we are online.

I believe it is an individual and or personal issue or choice. I am older than you are and have no issue with it, although I have not had any success with it, to date, however, to be honest, there are many (good) and also, (horror) stories with both scenarios.

For example, I know of people (young and older) who met their spouses in (person) married and lasted 40 plus years, some happy, some miserable, but stayed and I know of people who have met online got married are still joyfully together or in both cases are divorced or widowed.

I believe a true believer of Jesus Christ, choosing online as a way to meet, can get to know, and discern if a person could or maybe equally yoked with them before venturing out to meet in person; God will reveal the heart of that person, through communicating before taking it to the next step, without concerns about falling into sin as many do. It is a way of getting to know each other, and if you are truly seeking and praying, God will reveal the heart of that man or woman.

Basically whether you meet in person or online if a person wants to be honest or deceitful they will be, bible say the devil is going around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, we have to be careful either way.

I don't think age has anything to do with it, I think that some people are just so set in their ways, they find it hard to compromise & I for one don't want to be in a relationship that is too much like hard work.

It's time to eat my words, and happily so.

I have met a beautiful, humble, Godly woman here, who is astonishingly, crazy about me. I am amazed, but that's the kind of thing God does.

Wow, it's not an age thing. I have severally attempted quitting from here but something on my inside kept restraining me.

I believe that a good spouse is a gift from the Lord, so just hang on a little more, God will surprise you.
