Clothing and self respectPosted : 25 Dec, 2010 04:06 PMWhy is it some people think it is okay to wear revealing clothing on a christian site? For me I think you are advertising your body instead of your mind. A man that follows the word doesn't want a woman who is overly vain and overtly sexual, it is a turn off to me, how does everyone else feel about revealing clothing? |

Clothing and self respectPosted : 11 Jan, 2011 04:55 PMSo...let's see. Is how a person wears clothing sinful? In the garden of Eden, humans were naked all the time. So where's the real problem? Lust, right? I still think that most of the problem here is a "lust" problem. Doesn't really matter how a man/woman dresses, a person with uncontrolled lust is going to lust. So how does a christian fix the lust problem? By making everybody dress modestly, thereby ineffectively "hiding" the lust issue? Is that how problems are solved? A better option would be for us to control their eyes/hearts. That sounds more like a christian fix. Instead of demanding that everyone else help hide our problem, we change our heart, because even if all the christian men/women followed the christian modesty principles to the extreme, Christians will still have to deal with non-christian men/women that are still going to dress provocatively. The best option would be for christian men and women to have mercy/love for each other. We could all remember that the way we dress affects the personal battles of the people around us, but also remember that our problems are our own, and that the way someone else dresses is not responsible for our thoughts/actions. Then we could avoid all the "It's not my problem, it's your problem!!". I don't think God is going to listen when we tell Him that it wasn't our fault when we lusted after a woman/man, or it wasn't our fault that someone "made" us angry, just like it wasn't our fault when we coveted what someone else had. And I really don't think He's going to listen when we have proven that we have no mercy for others, even when we were shown great mercy ourselves. That includes people that unmercifully condemn others for not solving their problem for them, and the unmerciful people that don't care how their actions(or clothes) affect others. It's all about LOVE, people! |

Clothing and self respectPosted : 12 Jan, 2011 09:45 AMThe thread is about Christians and self respect not so much about those who don't practice the Christian faith. I agree it is up to the individual to control their actions but again, I was not addressing that issue. I am addressing self respect as it relates to the way a person dresses themselves. |

Clothing and self respectPosted : 16 Jan, 2011 08:18 AMI agree with what KatieKatie said way back on page 2 or something. Some women are still young in their walk with the Lord, and may not have been taught how to dress modestly. The tv shows the women dressing provocatively,so they try to.Everywhere young women and older see bad examples.Sometimes the christian men encourage the women o dress sexy too,the ones who are having a problem with lust and have not dealt with it yet.Women shouldn't have to dress frumpy to be modest. But they don't have to wear tight clothes, short hems or low cut blouses either. There is a way I believe to dress modestly, but also compliment your figure. |
