Dress codePosted : 26 Dec, 2015 11:00 PMOk so I was talking to a guy for couple of weeks and everything was fine and we were planning on setting our 1st date. But, yesterday he pointed out that he is Independent Baptist. I thought that it was like any baptist churches I attended before but its not. He said that he is willing to date me if I start changing the way I dress by wearing ONLY skirts or dresses by the knee or below. He did mention how its wrong for women to be wearing dress pants and jeans. He also phrased the bible verse of Deuteronomy 5:22. |

Dress codePosted : 27 Dec, 2015 09:36 AMIf he's trying to change you before your first date, can you imagine what he'll demand of you as time goes on? . . . Personally, I would run, and not look back but I'm not you. Best of luck cuz you're gonna need it with this one. |

Dress codePosted : 28 Dec, 2015 12:26 AMFirst of all Deuteronomy 5:22 talks about the ten commandments and not dressing. The verse he is referring to, is in Deuteronomy 22:5. Secondly, today we have trousers tailored specifically for women that men can't wear even if they wanted to. So in that sense, you are not wearing men's clothing. Thirdly, why did he contact you? Probably you had many other qualities that he admired and thought he would change this one little set back. |

Dress codePosted : 28 Dec, 2015 02:32 AMDo you purchase your pants from the men's department? If not, then how could they be considered men's apparel? In The Companion Bible there are side columns that contain notes that explain the original Hebrew and Greek texts, and for Deuteronomy 22:5 the explanation reads in part: "that which : i.e. any article of ornament or apparel. man = geber. See Ap. 14. III woman's garment. Generally red, and eschewed by men. |

Dress codePosted : 28 Dec, 2015 04:31 PMHi yes thnx for the correction of the bible verse and he did mention something aout history of pants being related to homosexuality and lesbianism and being to provacative to men that it shows your figure. I said i dont wear tight jeans only loose kinds. BUt he still said its wrong including capris and shorts. That he expects his partner to wear dresses/skirts 100% even at his home, going grocery shopping and church since he doesnt want his church ppl and other to look at his parnter like if im rebelling against their dress code. |

Dress codePosted : 2 Jan, 2016 12:10 PMIt's only wrong if it's for the purpose of dressing like a man, feminists did that in the beginning and that's how it went mainstream so.... your choice I guess. |

Dress codePosted : 6 Jan, 2016 09:16 PMIt's man's doctrines and belief's and yes it is a denomination even though he says it's not. I had neighbor's growing up that held these beliefs and they were pretty cool kids. The girl actually still wears dresses/skirts/capris as a woman is married and her girls are wearing the same. It all depends if YOU are comfortable dressing that way FOREVER cuz he will not budge on this one...I wish you well:) |

Dress codePosted : 13 Jan, 2016 06:17 PMI've had the same sort of situation. I'm Southern Baptist and was talking to a guy who was Independent Baptist and didn't like the way I did anything. It definitely is it's own denomination. I don't think there's anything wrong with it because a good friend goes to that kind of church and she's super fun to hang around but she always wears skirts, doesn't listen to any modern music, only hymns for worship and only use one specific version of the Bible. If he's trying to change you before you've even met then I would advise you not to keep going with it unless he is willing to listen to what you have to say and why you believe the way you do. I would do some serious praying about it. Be with someone you are comfortable with. |
