Beware of scams-I just got taken!
Posted : 3 Jan, 2009 10:12 AM

Hello everybody,

I want to share brieflly an experience I had, and hope none of you go through what I did. I fell for one these Nigerian scams-romance style. I had met someone on another christian dating site, and everything seemed fine. she sent pictures and everything seemed good. She said she was living in Nigeria because her late husband was killed there in a car accident. She said she was a christian and attended a baptist church. I suspected something was up, but did not follow through. She said she was from Missouri originally. My desire to meet that special someone overtook the logic that was needed to see through this. Over a period of time I sent her some money to help her along, and it was her desire to come back to the United States. she played me for a fool over a period of a few months, then threw her "ace of spades" at me. She said she had an insurance policy she was going to cash in and had her "agent" send me several thousand dollars in moneygrams of which i was to deposit then send her through western union to come here. turns out the checks were all bogus, I checked some fraud sites, and eventually found her using somebody else's picture, which is what i learned they like to do, use somebody else's pictures to make you think they are your "dreamboat', when in reality they are nothing but low down scoundrels who prey on people. As it is, I have to pay the bank back several thousand dollars to the bank.

Hard lesson learned- believe what the bible says- proverbs 3:5-6-"trust in the Lord with you heart, lean not unto your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." obviously I did not. So please be careful in all these areas, and please pray for me.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. You are obviously a very caring person to want to help someone out. We should all remember that the Scriptures teach us to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. Please don't lose heart, I am sure there is someone special for you out there. Just keep your wallet closed and your eyes and ears open. I think sometimes these things happen because scam artists are very cunning about how to turn our particular weaknesses to their advantage and of course they tend to be experts on human nature. For example, we women long for security. We really want someone to take care of us and be strong and resourceful. A hero, as it were. That's why romance novels, chick flicks, etc. are so popular with women. On the other hand, men are driven by their eyes. Sometimes men will reject someone because they don't like the "package" it's wrapped in. So they look for a particular look instead, hoping that the inside will be as beautiful as the outside. This is why pornography is so virulent even among Christian men. A pretty face and nice figure have been used many times by the enemy to lead a man astray. So we ALL have to bring our deepest desires to the cross and our thoughts must be brought captive to Christ. We must ask, what am I truly looking for? A godly woman? A godly man? Or is it that I just want godliness in the wrappings of a "Studmuffin" or "Sex Kitten". Just some food for thought.

hmm...maybe can share my story also here, I met one guy on other site, saying that he is a missionary, his job also helping poor people and orphans, at first I thought he was a nice man with a big heart, after knew him for a week then I realised that he was not a person I was thinking. He was not embrassed asking me money, saying it for a little boy. And I think he was using other guy picture too. It is a good thing to help other people but I did not trust his words after knowing him for awhile. What can I say here is dont trust people easily...for me I dont trust people fully until I know him/her closely..maybe not only on here but also out there.

:prayingf: Amen..

Have received a few of these. Most are pretty obvious ~ though not always ~ particularly if you've not had much online coorespondence and don't know what to look for.

Had a 'guy' email me today ~ was pretty skeptical due to the 'over the top' nature of what 'he' wrote. Funny thing was that when I checked the profile, he's made at least 2 refernces to 'himself' as being female. Wrote 'him' back and said honey, I'm not buying.

Didn't really think about reporting it until I read this post ~ guess I need to do that.

I am very sorry to hear of you being taken by a scam. I guess once we make ourselves vulnerable. That is we put ourselves out there as "needing/looking for the special someone", we are immediately open to attack. Male or Female . And so I think its essential to seek the Lords guidance at every step.

God bless bro! I pray He helps you to really find that special person.

I have been contacted by a few nigerians and fell for one but didn't fall for the money thing. Always a death in the family and raising a child by himself. or was hurt badly by a loved one and etc etc...

There spelling is all wrong and bebe (baby) is too quickly to come in the beginning. I contacted the FBI because, the amonunt he wanted. $3000.00 He sent 6 -$500.00 money orders came to me. I let him know that I cared (NOT) and he wanted me to cash some money orders from his boss, ha ha... IF they were more than$ 5000,00 they would get involved, and contact the police in Nigeria and be there at the westren union station where ever that may be. I did my cheaking around, homework I guess you call it. Their spelling is bad. To quickly to say they love you. Quote scriptures to you and all. I called one on it and I told him about the Lord and he said he was a from Nigeria and was sorry, told him he will answer to the Lord one day.. oh well never heard from him again. Said I would be praying for him..

I know :God has someone for everyone if its desire will for us to have a help mate. I know I have to keep doing my Fathers work untill He comes for us.

God Bless you all.

I am so so sorry that this happened to you.

These con artists can really fool you.

I had someone contact me from a site. He said he is in S. Africa doing some work. Of course my flags went up right away. So, far he hasn't asked for money.

I hope you are able to replace that money.

God bless you.

Pray for God's strength and, that next time he will guide your steps.

Update.

That person that was contacting me was calling me sweetie and quoting scripture.

My red flags went up once he told me he was going into Africa to do remodeling work. Then he ran out of supplies and his contractor would give him no money. The terms that he used are not of this country.

He asked me for money . I told him to send me his personal information and, that I could see what I could do for him. He stopped writing. I called the number that he has on the profile from this site. Spoke to the real one(or so he said he was the real one). This man said that someone stole his identity from this site. Is that possible?

People please be ware of these people. I heard that one woman was taken for $26,000 by him and, is in love with him?
