Single Parents of Special Needs Children

I'm the mother of a special needs teen. It would be nice to have a place to connect with people who have these special children or have their children in special activities.

I agree with you 100%. I am a mom of 2 developmentally disabled adult sons. My oldest is also schizophrenic and my youngest has Crohn's disease. I am amazed at the number of people who will not accept my sons, including those who claim to be Christian. I do believe that the Lord has someone in mind for people like us. He will reward those who diligently seek him and won't compromise our children and our integrity. There are those out there who will not accept divorced moms. It is their loss--they should not limit God.

It's hard to have that kind of rejection because I know that God made your child the way he/she is and there is no justification for someone not to accept them the way God made them. God chose you to be the parent of a very special person and that is an honor.

There is no way that someone can meet and engage in a relationship with a single mother as though she is a blank slate waiting for some man to write her life's story. That's a fantasy.

You have a history and a life that does not belong only to you, but to your children and God and only a jealous and shallow man would be intimidated by that. A "great" man will love you and be a part of your life and he will gladly accept all that comes with it.

I realize that as a single mom (I am a single mom, too) it's lonely raising kids alone and I'm going to pray for you to have strength and wisdom and above all else patience.

Finally, I found another special needs single parent! My 11 year old son is not only autistic, but he is also a cancer survivor!

He was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia when he was 61/2 months old. He had several health issues and spent many months in the University of Minnesota hospital in minneapolis. It was only by the grace of GOD, a dedicated care team, and my daughter, that he is alive today!

I hope to see you soon here1 Praise GOD for HIS perfect timing. It gets very lonely!

Dear CeCe, I have been diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, and in my adulthood Aspergers Syndrome. I have been rejected and basically an outcast all of my life. I don't have any children but I do understand what you are going through.
