We should have a whole thread to warn each other about Catfish (people who use false info and/or fake pictures).

I have come across 2 in this site so far, and it is really frustrating, because I caught them in their lie, they won't delete their profile, they continue to be active on the site, and the 2 that I found use pictures that don't show up on a reverse image search, so this site doesn't ban them even when I report. I don't want anybody else hurt by these people.

The Catfish are:

Cutecupcake87 - Talked for about 1 day (because this time I knew better)

- Told me her name was Kimberly

- Said she lived in Redding, CA

- Reverse phone number search shows the number registered to a different name in Iowa

- Was sending me pictures all day until I asked for a picture of her holding a note with my name on it, and then immediately her phone stopped working due to a "storm" in her area, though we were on the phone when she told me.

- Claims that she cannot Skype or have any social media because of an ex she has a restraining order from

- I asked her to find some way to prove she was real, she stopped messaging me competely.

LadyyB - Talked on and off for months

- Told me her name was Brittney Alton (only the last name is fake)

- Said she lived in Nashville, TN (lives in Memphis)

- Said she worked for Sony aka Columbia Records in Nashville (nobody there had heard of her)

- She also didn't have a facebook, and always had excuses for not Skyping, like forgetting the laptop at work, or business trip, or staying at a friend's house.

- She suggested that we get hitched, and I agreed (we can totally talk about this somewhere else, I know I went full genius here). She proceeded to let me start selling my belongings and buy a diamond engagement ring in preparation of getting married and moving. (I learned a lot about diamonds)

- I found one picture that she texted me on several other websites after I started getting paranoid about the constant excused for not Skyping.

- I called her out on a phonecall, she didn't technically admit or apologize, but after telling her all the evidence I found (not to mention found out who she really was), she didn't want to talk anymore. This was a few years ago, and she logged in a few days ago and accidentally viewed my new profile.

Listen, these are real stories, and I'm sharing them because I know I am not the only one. Let's look out for each other so other people don't get hurt and make stupid decisions like I did. So please share your catfish story with us all if it has happened to you on this site, and help guard Brothers and Sisters in Christ from any future heartbreak from Catfish.

May the peace of Jesus be with you. For real.

There are a lot of them out there, man or woman, I kinda had a similar experience but and to have one in this site who was actually aiming for sexual relationship only, its kinda scary to be risking our information though, its great to see someone brave to share these kind of things to inform others so it wont happen to them too.

Godbless and hoping that those catfishes will learn their lesson and wont do it again.

A thread to aware others won't help much because they can always make another fake profile.

Always request specific pics within the first few conversations to prove being real. Problem solved.

Easier said than done, using the same pictures would be a dead giveaway, so they would have to find pictures of somebody else, make them all the right size for this website, fill out more information.

Some may be willing to do it, but it is certainly better than not doing anything about it at all.

When you suspect a scammer, please do click the "report scammer" link.

I kept emailing the first one who got her hooks into me for a couple weeks. But pieces of her story weren't adding up. Her social media showed a name change ... when she asked for money I completed my investigation and closed it down.

I seriously suspect that some of the female scammers make a good side income from guys they scam out of their money. And male scammers ... I don't know.

But I think getting the scammers banned (to need to come back under a different profile with different pictures and different reasons they need money wired to them) is more useful than listing them.

Thanks Hoosier, I definitely agree with you on that. As I said in my original post, this site seems not to ban people if their pictures don't come up with any hits on a reverse image search. So they have already been reported.

Hey EyesOnEternity,

Just FYI, sometimes even if they did come up in a reverse image search, and reported, they still aren't removed.

I found a couple where the picture originated from others from a totally different country.

In fact, one catfish contacted me after the real person in the pic just posted to her blog the day before, thousands of mile away. And to add to that, the age was way off, country of residence wrong of course, marital status wrong and even children category was wrong. Even if this was the real person in the pic, just lying to that extreme is considered dishonest, which is one of the grounds for reporting. Also, one of the reverse image resulted in a Facebook account that also didn't belong to the original owner as I found her real Facebook page.

They were reported... but still active. I even reported with info/links of the original pics... nothing.

Maybe the moderators here are really busy... I dunno.

Oh well... guess we all gotta continue to be on our toes to recognize the tares ourselves, which is, of course, our own responsibility anyway.

I wish there was an option to flag fake profiles. Best I could do is report and hope they get removed. Just last night I caught a catfish in a lie. He (Borre) is still on here, wasted countless hours chatting with a time thief for weeks. Just need to remember the rules of Catfish! If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Video-chatting is a must. Investigate everything.

Resding from another comment how this site will not take off those who r fake even after it has been proven. Another problem I have is I had been with them for awhile for free and all of a sudden I am getting charged $9 something a month. When I noticed this after a few months of being charged, I emailed them. They responded as to when I was started being charged. Mentioned if I wanted to cancel I coukd. How nice that was of them. I don't understand ehy I was being charged in the first place. Thought it was supposed to be free. Emailed them back, asked why I was charged to start with and never received an answer. Convenient for them. I am always lerie of sutes that won't provide a phone number.
