Please keep in mind that these people are called scammers for a reason. They are very good at what they do, especially when it involves getting money or online dating scams. People that tend to fall prey to these online dating scams do so because they are in search of something that is supposed to be free, and that is love. These scammers are very good at what they do and are able to sniff out people that are hungry for this love and attention. They will tell you what you want to hear and take your money as long as you give it to them. If this article has been able to help one person, it will be a great accomplishment.
These are just a few strategies for how detect online dating scammers. In this age of the internet, our lives have been made a little easier as far as finding places and people, at the same time it has also made it easier for people to become the victim of a scam.
1. Is the picture you received from one of the most beautiful people you have ever seen? Now, I am not saying that someone this gorgeous would not be interested in you, but to have flawless skin and a beautiful body in what is supposed to be a snapshot can be a dead giveaway. If their picture looks like they just left glamour shots, it is probably too good to be true and more than likely, the person is trying to scam you.
After corresponding online for two days, he asks you to please send him some money because he is stuck in his native country and he spent all of his money paying for his sick mom's much needed operation. He also tells you that he needs money for airfare so he can come and sweep you off of your feet. As if he had not already won you over.
2. Bogus personal profiles. This is where all the internet dating fraud begins. The profiles are always served as a front on any dating sites. The scam artists pretend to be a single looking for true love. Pay very close attention to all the details like their biographies, income and pictures, etc. Occasionally, you can tell their profiles sound too good to be true. For example, they send you a message introducing themselves and nothing matches their profiles. Or, if they immediately talk about how they really need help regarding to their money problems, that is a very good sign of a possible internet dating fraud.
But a note of caution - Some profiles are beautifully narrated and that does not mean anything like scam. The basic understanding is that, according to Proverbs 10:19 (King James 2000 Bible (2003)) "In the multitude of words there lacks not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.".
If you are a good woman/man, your profile should indicate who you are, be it long or short, as both has its pros and cons! The general idea is that, by much words, a bad scammer will surely implicate him/herself. especially when picked upon suddenly to defend his/her profile, without allowance for him/her to be prepared!
3.Personal information disclosure. Let's say you are unable to spot out all these bogus personal profiles. The scam artists will gradually earn your trust by pretending to have a relationship with you. In order for them to get to know you better, you tell them everything in your life. Since you trust them totally, you disclose these things such as your family, work and of course, your financial information. At this point, if they keep asking about how much money you have in your bank accounts, your account and routing numbers, etc, you should realize that this is an internet dating fraud.
4.Limited communication methods. The scam artists might have done a great job on keeping everything real, and you are totally falling for it. The current situation is you have been talking to them for quite sometime now. You have thought of chatting with them over the phone. Or, you would want to meet them in person. When you bring up these two ideas, they suddenly stop talking to you in the personal chat or through email. Another thing that can happen is that they will agree to communicate with you by phone or in person only if you are willing to give them money based on some lame excuses they make. You should be able to recognize these two scenarios are good indications of internet dating fraud.
