ZANESVILLE, Ohio - Democrat Barack Obama is announcing plans to expand President Bush's program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups.
Obama unveiled his approach to getting religious charities more involved in government anti-poverty programs Tuesday. He spoke at Eastside Community Ministry.
Obama said, "The challenges we face today ... are simply too big for government to solve alone."
He said he still believes deeply in the separation of church and state.
Obama's announcement is part of a series of events leading up to Friday's Fourth of July holiday that are focused on American values.
:goofball: I thought American values had no seperation between church and state. But it's alright if we give the government money to help out anti-poverty progams but let's no say JESUS in public.hmmmm
