American citizens need to take to become a soldier. 1) Only U.S. citizens may be soldiers. or 2) A foreign troops in the United States may be running. To be eligible for enlistment in the Army or Army Reserve, an individual must be an American citizen or lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence [10 United States Code, Section 3253(c), 8253(c)]. Recruiters cannot assist people in coming to the United States or assist them in getting permanent resident status. They can work with people who already have permanent resident status or who can show they are in the process of receiving permanent resident status.
