Since I've been a Christian (2001), I was surprised to discover that the word "submission" - within a Believers marriage - was rather a dirty word.

Doormat does not eqaute to submission in the Biblical sense.

I read it as being a "willing" gift from the wife to the husband who then does NOT take this gift for granted. Submission should never be forced but rather be "given".

Do others feel the same way or have other views on it?

Nice to meet you and I do agree. I feel that it is biblical. If a husband loves his wife as himself then submission is not a hard thing to do but a giving aspect of marriage.

I have been a Christian for 40 years, and I was raised in a Baptist church. The part of the Bible that talks about wives submitting themselves to their husbands stresses the importance of the husbands loving their wives jast as Jesus loves the church. In turn, the wives will be able to submit to the leadership that the husband has in the home.

God definitely does not expect us to be doormats. If we are being treated that way by our husbands, then God does not hold us accountable if we do not submit to them.
