Collie Lover - New Here!

Hey there! :waving:

First off, I Love Jesus. second, I Love Collies. third, I Love Celebrate Recovery. Between the three of them I've not only gotten my life back, I've been reborn! I'm in my 50th year of life & starting all over again & having a blast! God is SO good!

I'm just getting my feet wet, so to speak, with this relationship/dating stuff. Actually, it's probably more like sticking my toe in. I've been out of circulation for .... hmmmm... over 10 years now, I guess. Been doing a lot of praying, studying, pondering, & healing.

I hope to get a picture up soon. I'm NOT tech savvy- at all! It's like math with me- in one eye and out the other! I'll be asking a friend of mine later to see if they can get a picture or two on here for me.

So. How's that for an intro? And I left room for questions, too!

Yeah- think Lassie & you'll get quite a good picture. Although it must be said that Pal (the dog who played Lassie) was abandoned by his owners. They took him to Rudd Weatherwax in desperation because they had not trained him- at all. After Rudd worked his magic on Pal they didn't want him back. And the rest is history!

My Collie is pure for sable, which means he is sable & white. Sable is that reddish brown color in the Collie.

Thanks for replying to my thread all of you! It's appreciated!

Border Collies NEED a job or they WILL be destructive! Agility, herding (of course), flyball, or even running with you if you are a jogger are all good outlets for the BC. They have a LOT of energy.

I love the Collie! Right now I have a pure for sable male who is 7 1/2 years old. He was owner surrendered to his breeder when back to back tragedies struck the family. He's a very good boy! Very sensitive. He also has a high herding instinct which means he wants to chase practically everything! Sometimes Walkies are a challenge for both of us.

(I wish "They" would post the thread one is replying to- I forget things too readily!)

Shelties are great little dogs. BUT- one really has to research the breeder VERY carefully. Most Conformation show lines are high strung yappy little dogs totally unsuited for pet status. Or anything else, for that matter! Getting one from an Obedience breeder is a much better way to go.

Ask any breeder about what they specifically breed for. Temperment, health, and trainability should be the first words out of their mouth (it's OK if not in that order). If not, look elsewhere. Also- there should be a buy or take back of the dog/puppy, no questions asked, in the sale/adoption papers.

I find that Breed Rescue is a great way to go. Most Rescues are looking for a responsible forever home for the dog. They really don't want to have to try and rehome the poor thing again. They always take the dog back, but try very hard to make that perfect match.

I hope you were looking for doggy info.....

i grew up next door to a man who bred and showed rough collies. i remember playing with them as a child. His dogs were really great.

My family has 5 dogs, three of which are shelties (2 are from a conformation breeder) and one is what Pop calls "country sized" because he's the size of an aussie or border collie.

I disagree with rough collie girl that conformation dogs are not good pets. I showed the sheltie circuit for a while with my bi blue and tricolor (Brycee and Brodie respectively) and met a bunch of really great breeders with really great dogs. conformation breeders love the breed they show. they want to better that breed and show how great the dogs are. a good breeder never breeds a dog that is substandard in any area.
