So many people jump into relationships without being friends first. Why is that? Can you have a great relationship with a potential lifetime partner without being his or her friend first? The most incredible relationship I have had was with my former best friend, who I have been best friends with since 2nd grade. So maybe there is some truth to that.

Problem: The problem with the friends first issue. Is when you are just friends with the person and you have feelings for him or her. Nothing can truly be said because you are being " Friends First". Hold your tongue when your "friend" dates other ppl. That is when "Friends First" bites you in the butt.

Give me your insight on this topic. Thanks

I understand the importance of the people in a relationship also being "best friends", however, the whole being friends first thing, has never worked out for me. It leaves me with those "feelings" and the other person just seeing me as a friend! I understand your confusion...good post!

Storm- Friends first is a good saying but is it plausible. This is something I am really working on now. By the time you reach my age it is truly time to learn from your mistakes. Plus by the time you have reached my age of 25 you should have this whole "Boy meets Girl thing down pact. "

One key would be to keep your feelings in check. Feelings change, so try to input some rational in your relationships with your potential mate.
