~The Line~

I stand in line to see the Lord

waiting and waiting, sitting so bored.

I see the ones up front and crying,

while answers to questions my God is prying.

I take a step forward, it's my turn next.

My heart beats faster deep in my chest.

I look ahead and now I see

my God and his son in front of me.

I step up and the Lord starts to speak.

My body feels heavy, my knees get weak.

"My son tell me, is this my child?"

I look at Jesus to see his smile.

"Why yes Father, she is yours

she has completed Your tasks, finished her chores.

She has turned to You in times of need,

she has fallen to her knees and let out a plead.

She has tried her best to live for You

she spoke out to people who didn't have a clue.

Father, this is Your beautiful child."

Listening to Him made my insides go wild.

Tears sprung from my eyes, I'm not sure why,

I stood still waiting to hear my Lord's reply.

He sat with no expression on his face.

I stood shaking, thinking of everything I wish I could erase.

All the stupid things I have done and said

all the bad thoughts that ran through my head.

If only I could go and do more,

thinking of these things I should have done make me sore

and the tears continue to fall to the floor.

My feet stay still while my mind tells me to run for the door.

My Lord begins to smile then holds out a hand to me.

At that I cover my face and fall to my knees.

He reaches and scoops me into his lap

holding me close and filling the broken gap.

"You did all you should have my child."

I closed my eyes and smiled.

It felt so warm and safe in his strong arms

nothing could hurt me here, I was safe from harm.

He leaned forward and placed me back in line with the rest.

I felt relieved and over joyed, no longer feeling depressed.

My Lord looked at me with a smile,

and I knew everything I had done was worthwhile.

I knew I had found my place, no more to roam.

He opened his arms to me and softly spoke, "Welcome home."
