Scare to try online friendships-
Posted : 2 Aug, 2009 05:28 AM

Like many of you I joined recently, just today discovered the chat forum, and frankly I'm intimidated because many of the fellows want younger , slender attractive women and they enumerated few qualities of the heart and character, its not fair because the majority of us are not like that!

I'm not a beauty queen ,have a few extra lbs , some well earned wrinkles and:rolleyes: almost 55!

I'm content with who I'm, Love God and Jesus , I'm loyal, loving giving , driven, smart and REAL ( it almost sound rhetoric) but is who I'm.

so the question Brothers is what is where does this leave me and the many mature sisters like? who do not meet the Barbie's expectations?

should I leave? :waving:

Hi Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

I am 51 years "young" and like myself more now than I ever have. I bet many of you feel the same way.

Although the virtual scene can be all about looks (and the false fronts many put out there) I have made the choice to be myself. I am not perfect and although I do love Barbie, I have recognized that God didn't make me a plastic doll with inhuman proportions.

Be yourself! I have a sneaky suspicion that you are absolutely wonderful the way God made you and I know there is someone out there who will love you "just the way you are." If you try to present a facade it will crumble and eventually the truth will come out.

I've found many men and women put "old" pictures of themselves online (10 and more years old) or pictures of their daughters (can you believe that ladies) presented as themselves. If you eventually want to meet someone and they see you face to face, there will be the problem of not being the person you presented and you have started a potential friendship on a lie. You are marvelous at this age, weight and time! God didn't make a mistake and there are people who will like you for you.

Write a profile sharing all the wonderful traits your friends love about you, be honest about your interests (no matter how different), there might be someone out there looking for someone to share that interest.

Most importantly, learn to like yourself. Don't let others opinions of you take your self esteem away. You are a precious child of God. Don't forget it!

Blessings,

Jo Rae

Bottom line, I'm not sure if the online world works for me but one thing I know for sure, I'm only good at being myself.

Aloha

Thank you for your response with great advice and words of encouragement!

Is precisely the lack of honesty what I find disconcerting as I read some profiles and as you point out the practices that have developed ( posting old pics, or someone elses etc..)

I moved to Hawaii recently and havent found a church ,what drew me to this site was the word Christian and the need to reinforce a healthy sense of community (and, interestingly, the more connected I feel, the higher my degree of generosity and compassion) naive maybe , but for me the word CHRISTIAN implies all of what is taught in the Bible .

Anyway Ive realized if I started to talk honestly I would get honest responses which I did and appreciate

Thank for answering and participating!

Love in Christ

in need of friends

Flora

ps I will update my profile soon

Dear Write4Jesus

I enjoyed your comments and advice...but... how does one talk to you if your "Mail Settings" prevent so?

Blessings,

Hi there! I know exactly what you're talking about and I'm just 39. It's amazing how shallow so many men are about a woman's size. They can love everything else about her but if she is just not the right size they throw everything else out the window so to speak.

You hang in there! God has that special man out there that is looking for a special lady just like you. He will be willing to accept and love you just the way you are. Until then, hold your head high and make new friends with those who you find common interests.

Wish you the very best in your search!!
