Since it appears that you haven't had a reply to this "thread", let me welcome you to North Carolina. I regret that you haven't found a "church home" at the time you made this post. However, I understand that it's not easy to find a good "fit". Although this is the "Bible Belt", I find that the choices "leave much to be desired". At least, from my perspective.
I'm not exactly "close by", so I can't recommend a good church. But, of course, "close by" is a very relative term. I'm probably an hour and a half from Mooresville, and some may say that is "close by", but I'm not of that opinion.
However, if you think an hour and a half is close by, and you're inclined to email, I'll be glad to hear from you. I'm not a native Tarheel, but I've been here since '83, so I've lived here longer than anywhere else, and don't have any plans (at this point), to leave.
