Admin	christian music/secular music Posted : 22 Sep, 2007 09:32 AM hi...I am a huge christian metal, hardcore, & punk fan...A lot of religious people feel that rock music is the devils and that all christian hard rock is bad...I have news for them, God created music, not the devil, who also has created the lie that christian rock is evil...my favorite groups are Demon Hunter, Fasedown, Call to Preserve, War of Ages, Decyfer Down, Disciple, Still Remains, As I lay Dying, Underoath, Flyleaf, Seventh Star, Alove for Enemies, Living Sacrifice, Day of Fire, Switchfoot, Reliant k , Pillar, Kutless, Jesus Wept & of course, the mighty P.O.D. There are many others but I want to get this posted. I assure you that coming out of secular music (slipknot,slayer,S.O.D.,hatebreed etc.)before I became a christian, I have to watch what I listen to...I assure you that all the afore mentioned groups have a message of God and about God and Fasedown and Disciple even have scriptures look up that go with the song..I pay very close attention and read lyrics and if the messge isn't there, I will not listen to it....anyone who would like to comment positive or negative, I invite you to comment on this forum because I am interested in how the rest of the church feels about my post...God bless you all Christian Warriors and believers in His eternal truths.. View Profile History	christian music/secular music Posted : 24 Sep, 2007 04:00 PM Nice Post, Allot of Christian's do see this style of music (and others) as being anti-God, and myself being into most styles (including metal) have had many of discussions with other Christians regarding this. My conclusion has been this: The arguments they put forward come from a lack of understanding along with a lack of appreciation. With the above in mind, because they may not appreciate the style of music (eg. not enjoy it) and at the same time do not take the time to understand the heart behind the bands/artists and the lyrics etc, and this makes it easy for them to be able to say "it must be of the devil". You are correct about who created music, however The devil did take that under his wing, and has unfortunately has success in using and abusing it to help distract people (even Christians) from God's awesome truth, and i guess at the same time if we wanted to get really picky, the only true form of Christian music is that of worship (hymns etc) So i can understand why people can say this about Christian metal, however it is ignorant to not research the bands and see their hearts.. Take Mortification for example.. the 1st Christian Death/Life metal bands to make it big in the secular market.. they (unlike many Christian artists who have made it into the secular listener zone) have never conformed, have never softened their ministry, which is to encourage listeners about God and to speak God's truth through their music, and hey, its working.. I have known satanists to have mortification in their CD collection (right behind deicide and other satanic bands), and that is awesome, because that is sowing a seed of God's truth into their lives. Its easy for some to see steve rowe's long hair and growls on stage and judge him and his music as non Christians, but i challenge anyone who thinks that to talk to Steve and not walk away with a changed opinion, as he is the most ministry and God focused person i have ever met in my life, and His heart is crying out for more people to see God's truth, and his/God's band is out there in a market that needs a christian influence (you are not going to get a satanic death metal listening freak, to listen to and enjoy a Michael W Smith CD) so having christian's doing God's ministry via metal, techno, or whatever is sowing these seeds of encouragement and truth into the musical style choices of both christian and non christian's alike. With all this said, we do need to be careful though.. some band's (not only metal) claim to be a christian band, however are not (by this i mean, they may all be Christian's but the band is not set up for ministry, hence making them Christian's in a band, not a Christian band.) With music, no matter what style, i believe we should take it with the "you are what you eat" attitude which the bible encourages, meaning that we should listen to music that is not only enjoying, but encourages our walk, lyrics that line up with His word and the encouragements that are seen within the cover. I liked the selection of bands you listed, i enjoy most of their music.. and demon hunter is another great example of an christian band making it big in the secular scene and out there sowing seeds with their God given ministry. Wow, what a long reply.. but as you can see, i have a passion when it comes to christian music and can go on forever to encourage more people (even Christian's) to dump the secular garbage and get listening to some great christian artists out ther e(in all styles of music) and will always back up christian band's (many of which i know personally, knowing their heart and inspiration and direction etc) when some ignorance comes to light from people who hypocritically judge something they don't understand. View Profile History	christian music/secular music Posted : 25 Sep, 2007 06:41 AM you rock brother..I love mortification..I was into Slayer, coal chamber, six feet under,spineshank, slipknot, all kinds of garbage...but during the 90's I did like mortification!!! a great example of christians who are not using there music as a ministry is Chevelle...dude, I love this band, and I have there past three cds but they have strayed away since point#1..I forgot to add that I also love skillet & flatfoot 56..my last concert was in July was call to preserve,seventh star, and war of ages...that concert rocked!! But what was important was I questioned all these bands on there faith and how there message was reaching kids, and did they practice what they preach...All had wonderful responses..I have cds by all these bands but I highly recommend call to preserve...I was refering to them as Hatebreed Jr. at the show..Demon Hunter hands down is my favorite group, I own all three cd's and can't wait for the next. another band that are questionable but I have their csd's none the less is 12 stones. and as I end this post there is one secular band that is more christian in there lyrics than alot of others, and that is killswitch engage. I am a huge fan of Christian metal and hardcore, including death metal bands such as With Blood Comes Cleansing and Impending Doom. Many have sold out. Anyone remember Stryper? Pigeon John has some uplifting music but , in my opinion. is still innappropriate at times. i think that if the music causes you to stumble in some way or causes division then despite the title it is not well for you. You are allowed your own tastes and one is not more 'holy' than another. Debate is endless but the greatest law is love and putting others before yourself. be cosiderate to the weaker brother. The Holy Spirit will prod you when and how to treat music and it's proper time and place. LPG attacks other christian rap artists at times, is this from God, only you can decide. Trying to prove others wrong should not be the goal, especially in public. There is no blanket answer. You can buy into making product of a certain opinion but is the content and purpose appropriate for the edifying of Christ. So what if someone dislikes your music, let them be and bow to respect that opinion. Be sensitive in your heart and His Spirit will prompt you in love. To make rules regarding music is cumbersome and hinders the freedom we have in Christ. The grace of His Spirit is much better and teaches you with each relationship what is right and best at any given time or place. Guard your heart with all diligence the bible says. On the flip side of that regard others more highly than yourself. If the music spurs you on then you have that freedom, if it causes conflict, toss it aside. Not to please those who wish to usurp power over you and be as pharisees to burden, but in love toward'one another'. My 2 Cents. Post Reply

I was raised in a tiny Baptist church with the old hymns and while they are beautiful still, my taste and music style has changed........Good Post! God Bless! Post Reply
View Profile History	christian music/secular music Posted : 28 Feb, 2008 07:15 AM i agree every much. i think alot of that music gets a bum rap. along with gospel rap. god says he created the hyms and the psalms that is music and poetry. and all genres as long as its done in his name. and people have to realize and view it at a minstery and we ant after the one who are all ready saved we are after those who still need to find him. id rather be speaking the good word to the street hustler who needs to hear it then the person all ready in the church. all the prophets where street prophets you have to start it in the streets. one love jesus christ Post Reply

Sometimes we allow satan to dictate to us. God created music, so why should we let satan trick us into thinking that a certain rythm is his?? Also, Most of the Youth, especially those in Europe shy away from church because The church no longer reach out to them. If the youth like rock, why not do it the gospel way to attract them. The Bible says that "praise the Lord all ye nations, Praise him all ye people; For his mercies endureth forever..."Psalm117. I believe that if rock praises the Lord and evangelises to a certain group of people, then lets do it. Someone correct me if I am wrong, I have not yet come accross a scripture that said Do not do rock music..... Post Reply
