If they get the edited version or turn the volume off when there's something bad on.

...what?

How does music have anything to do with one's salvation?

Christians can listen to whatever, if they really want. This is mostly a nonissue.

That has never been questioned. Of course you can. Hearing a tune doesn't undo the resurrection.

Just my opinion, but it's not a cut-and-dry answer.

Music stirs the heart and crosses over languages; it's one of my many passions. Therefore, I love a wide variety.

However, just because Jesus hung out with sinners AND has 100% paid for our sins, I don't perceive that as permission to listen to music with bad language or do the things I'd done before He saved me. Whatever we listen to or see with our eyes affects our spirit (like it not, that's what the Word teaches me). Then, there's another factor - as we are the salt and a light in the world, our music and listening habits influence others for better or worse.

Blessings and honor,

Hope

I guess in the same way you might enjoy secular art.... you can enjoy secular music.

At some point art turns into pornography and I suppose music does or can too.

Just sayin

I have had churches I have gone to in the past tell me I can only listen to Christian music, and as a musician that was always a sensitive topic and something I would not adhere to. I listen to almost every type of music, a lot of the time is is part of my schooling as I am getting an honours bachelor of music. Sometimes a song is just fun and catchy.

Not to mention, in this society it is impossible to listen to only Christian music, if you walk into just about any store in a mall they are playing the top 40 hits.

I'm not saying it's sinful to listen to other music...but there is a difference in buying it and playing it in your mp3 player and walking into a store that has it on

I actually used to play a laundry list of cover secular songs in bars even prior to conversion. Most the songs I played were oldies, classic rock, modern rock, etc. It just doesn't feel right anymore. Not just playing in bars which is self evident, but playing just about every song that I played before. Not only playing the songs, but setting myself up on some platform for all to gaze their eyes upon as if I was setting myself up as some type of idol. So unless I'm passing glory onto God, it won't work.

As for listening to secular music, I find a lot of it (especially in our main-stream music industry) has a bad Spirit behind it. Music has a powerful influence on one's persuasion. So I just suggest to take this into consideration. Music can have a very influential effect on the mind, and it might not be in the best way.

I think musical instruments were created for God to glorify and Worship him and his Works.

1 Corinthians 10:23 says that Everything is permissible-But not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible-but not everything is constructive (NIV Version).

We have the freedom, fine! But we have to choose what we think is helpful especially in our Christian walk. I agree that the Music we listen to leaves an influential impact in your mind, normally positive or negative. If you choose to listen to secular Music, choose SENSIBLE music and not just anything called music! Some secular music is actually educative/teaches! so choose wisely if you must listen to it.

Be blessed
