(John Flavel, "The Fountain of Life" 1671)

"Christ died for the ungodly." (Romans 5:6)

O what a melting consideration is this! That . . .

out of His agony, comes our victory;

out of His condemnation, comes our justification;

out of His pain, comes our ease;

out of His stripes, comes our healing;

out of His gall and vinegar, comes our honey;

out of His curse, comes our blessing;

out of His crown of thorns, comes our crown of glory;

out of His death, comes our life!

James,

No offense intended, but when I read a article like this posted by you, it...well...uhmm..well you see when I read "Christ died for the ungodly" I know your true meaning 'died only for the ungodly elect' and it kinda puts a bad taste in my mouth, you know what I mean?...just saying.

It's kinda like one of those Jehovah Witness tracts, many times what you read is true when taken at face value, but you know what they really mean.

Great article though, that is if it is taken as God intended.

Yes, I know what you mean. even though you refuse to admit it, I have told you more than once that you HATE the idea of God choosing whom He will save.

You think it is unjust, and that it makes God out to be evil.

You refuse to admit it plainly, but you show it every time you make comments like the one you just did.

I think you just come out and admit it. We both know that is what you think.

Christ died for the UNgodly. Meaning Jesus died for People who are sinners, and some of them are GREAT sinners at that.

Now, the Idea of a perfectly Holy God who is offended beyond anything you can imagine never makes it into your thoughts, because you are too busy being MAD that God chooses whom He will save.

As long as you think man has freewill, and sin is really not that bad, and that God does NOT have a right to do with His creation as He wills, then yes, you will NOT appreciate the FACT that Jesus died for the ungodly.

After all, according to you, YOU are the one who REALLY saved you, because YOU made the DECISION to repent and accept Jesus!

I don't know your reason for hating the truth that God is the one who saves. Maybe you don't want to let go of that self-righteous belief that you helped to save yourself by cooperating with God. Maybe you just spent a LOT of time deciding HOW God should be, and you did it APART from reading the Bible. All I know is, at the end of the day, you have all those verses of Scripture in your Bible.

Joh 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Joh 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Act 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

If you want to know what I think, just come out and ask (something you have never done). No, it does not bother me that God chooses, because either way He ultimately does....you see that don't you? What bothers me is I believe this is a assault on the Character of God and the Bible. Even though we are evil there are things God looks for in man and things He encourages in man, God is a gardener, a shepherd of men. To say God plays duck duck goose is bizarre doctrine.

Since you are after admissions, why dont you admit you don't know what criteria God uses to choose, all you know is it is not based on our righteousness or good works. (which we both agree)

I know you know this is true.

You just don't get it, do you James? Those who don't agree with you don't believe the garbage you throw around saying we believe. Why do you continue to do that??? Why do you continue to accuse us of believing we save ourselves? JESUS SAVES!!!! That's what we believe! Get it?!?! And because we don't believe your Calvin babble, we hate the truth that God is the one who saves? Why do you continue to point your finger in false accusation after false accusation??? Do lies against your brothers or sisters in Christ bring some sick satisfaction to your argument? Make you feel bigger? Just how Christian are you in your behavior here?

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. -Proverbs 14:5

Twosparrows Said:

James replies:

No. The Bible says that GOD CHOOSES. Arminians say that "God looked into the future and 'elected' the people that He saw would have faith".

That is NOT God choosing.

Twosparrows continues:

What bothers me is I believe this is a assault on the Character of God and the Bible.

James replies:

Yes, that is what I just said.

Twosparrows continues:

Even though we are evil there are things God looks for in man and things He encourages in man, God is a gardener, a shepherd of men. To say God plays duck duck goose is bizarre doctrine.

James replies:

God does NOTHING arbitrarily! Just because WE don't know the reason of something does NOT MEAN that God is arbitrary.

It just means WE DON'T KNOW WHY.

Twosparrows continues:

Since you are after admissions, why dont you admit you don't know what criteria God uses to choose, all you know is it is not based on our righteousness or good works. (which we both agree)

I know you know this is true.

James replies:

That is right. We don't know. And we DO know it is NOT because of anything we would do in life, because Romans 9 SAYS SO.

There IS mystery in the workings of God.

In Christ,

James
