The Four Aspects Of Jesus:
Jesus is lovely and beautiful in every way. The more we study the Scriptures and learn about Him, the more we will see His perfection, loveliness, and beauty. There are so many aspects of Jesus that are worth studying, but we will just focus on four of it here. In the four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we see four different accounts of Jesus life and ministry on Earth. Each of these authors covered the same beautiful story, but each with a unique angle. Each of these gospels also covers one of the different aspects of Jesus.
The King:
Jesus is the King of kings, and Lord of lords. To emphasize this, Matthews account of the Gospel starts with the genealogy of Jesus, tracing His ancestry back to David and Abraham. In the Old Testament, God promised both these men that a messiah would come through their descendant, and Jesus came a fulfillment of that prophecy. The entire account of Matthew depicts the works and deeds of Jesus as a majestic fulfillment to the messianic prophecy, confirming His role as our Savior King.
The Servant
Of all the aspects of Jesus, one of the most touching of them all is that even though He is the King of all kings, yet He cast down His crown to become the servant of all mankind. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is depicted as a man who constantly moved about serving and ministering to the needs of the people around Him through the leading of the Spirit. From the beginning to conclusion, the Gospel of Mark portrays Jesus as the perfect Servant. Right to the last verse of Mark, we see that even after His resurrection and ascension Heaven, Hes still continuing the work He began when He was on Earth.
Mark 16:20
And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.
The Man
Lukes account clearly shows forth Jesus humanity. Right from the beginning, it traces the genealogy all the way back to Adam, the first man. It also gives details of how Jesus lived, His childhood, and even the lives of His earthly family. In this way, Luke establishes Jesus manhood. This is important as it shows that Jesus does not see our problems from afar off, but lives through them personally. His later suffering and temptation to give up the cross shows both His humanity and perfection.
Luke 22:42
Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.
Yet, even through all His sufferings, He remained steadfast and obedient. In fact, the stress was so intense that He sweated great drops of blood in the garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus is the only human that ever lived a perfect and sinless life. He went through every tribulation and temptation, but yet remained faultless. He also experienced all things known to mankind, in order to totally identify with us. Only in this way can He be the perfect substitute, the sacrifice that redeems us from the penalties of sin.
God
Apart from the aspects of Jesus mentioned above - a King, a Servant, and a Man, Jesus is also fully God. In Johns account of the Gospel, Jesus is shown in His complete Divinity.
John 1:13, 14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
In Johns Gospel, the genealogy of Jesus is not recorded. This portrays Jesus as God, with no beginning nor end. Many times in this book, Jesus declared, I AM . For example, He said, I am the bread of life(John 6:35), I am the light of the world (John 8:12), I am the door (John 10:9), and I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25). This is significant as God declared His name to Moses in Exodus 3:14 as I AM who I AM.
But no matter what role He took, or from what angle we view His story, He came to do one thing to save and redeem us. It is His work that made it all possible, and it is what He has done that allows us to escape a fiery end, and instead enjoy all blessings now on earth, and everlasting paradise in Heaven.
Therefore, in the next section, we are going to focus on the finished work of our Christ Jesus.
