Which is more important, trying to prove that you are right and everyone else is wrong

or

Sharing the Love of God with everyone else.

All I see lately from several people are those with egos who have a chip on their shoulder a mile wide.

Today, we had an earthquake in Mexico that registered at about 6.5 and another in Japan that is 7.4. And all we can do is argue about whether Arminianism or Calvinism is right. Is this how you want people to view Christians, as nothing but a bunch of arguers and back stabbers.

It's one thing to come in here to ask question so you can have a better understanding of the Bible. But it's another thing to come in here and tell others that they are wrong about their beliefs because, well, you obviously no more than anyone else. And this is how several of you are coming across. Not just one person, but several from both sides. You're letting your pride get in the way of God. Instead of allowing God to use you to bring others closer to Him, you are allowing Satan to use you to sow hatred and confusion.

Some of you, who at one time I respected, I no longer respect. I no longer respect you because you will not open your eyes to see the bigger picture: THERE'S A WORLD THAT IS LOST AND DYING AND WILL NEVER KNOW THE LOVE OF GOD UNLESS WE GET OFF OUR REAR ENDS AND GO SHOW AND TELL THEM THE LOVE OF GOD.

Catty you make great points. I am guilty of this as well. Let me explain a little bit however. My belief that I defend here so much is how the gospel is defined to me. It translates to every part of my Christianity. It affects how evangelism is even done. Do I tell everyone God loves you and He's holding out his hand if you'll just grab it, you'll be saved? Do I tell them He's knocking on the door of their hearts and they just need to open the door? Do I tell them all they need to do is pray this simple prayer after me and God will save them? Do I tell them if they are afraid to pray, then I will pray the prayer for them and if they agree, just squeeze my hand? No I do none of that because none of that saves. Do I tell everyone Jesus is begging for them to come to Him? No because He is not. The doctrines of grace, as awful as they may seem to many here are central to the LOST WORLD, you are talking about. I do think the bickering should be kept down and scriptures showing your side presented. However, I cannot just not contend for the faith. Jesus was often very harsh and did things that Christians today would say, turn people away from God if they happened today. I agree however the childish bickering and misrepresentation of people's views should stop.

I Timothy 1 vs 5, 6 & 7 :

Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and sincere faith, (6) from which some having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, (7) desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

Good post!

Cat, I love and respect you, and in the big picture you are absolutely right, however 'this' is not the big picture, this is a Christian dating forum, Bible discussion section. It does exactly what it is designed to do, help you know others better through interaction and discussion, and yes even arguing and debating.

As surely you are aware of I have different views from James and LSU, however I admire that they are passionate and educated in what they believe. How many Christians know what they believe and why? I consider them fellow Christians and even like them as people, even though we disagree. I do not think James nor LSU hold any animosity towards me, they might, but I don't think so. I notice when I share the middle ground between Calvinism and Arminianism, they are strangely silent, so I assume they don't take me a a uninformed Charismatic.

I enjoy these discussions as they make me really dig in to the Bible and meditate on it word for word. The play on words or sarcastic zinger are just icing on the cake!

Kat, I love you dearly and respect you as my sister in Christ. It's sad that you've lost respect for others on this forum who have, in my opinion, tried to stand for Truth. I agree it gets heated but when false doctrine is being pushed, sometimes to meekly admonish isn't the answer. Should we let false doctrine have free reign because we are afraid to speak up? Yes we are to LOVE and share God's Love: we also have to take a stand against the enemy.

Chevy, I have no problem with people standing up for what the believe and know to be true. What I do have a problem with is people who refuse to accept that other people are not going to agree with them all the time and who believe they are the ones who have all the answers. Now maybe the people I'm referring to didn't mean to come across this way, but lately it seems that they are becoming more and more like this.

I must agree with cattywampus. I don't see how all the bickering is having any benefit at all for the parties involved nor the readers, whether saved or lost.
