Months later, Terry Jones burns a Quran anyway; protests in Afghanistan result in 12 deaths
By Cooper Levey-Baker | 04.01.11 | 2:49 pm | The Florida Independent
The BBC is reporting that an attack on a UN compound in northern Afghanistan has left at least 12 people dead, and that the source of the violence was a protest over the recent burning of a Quran in a Florida church.
From the BBC:
On 20 March, Pastor Wayne Sapp set light to a copy of the Koran at a church in Florida.
The burning took place under the supervision of Terry Jones, another US pastor who last year drew condemnation over his aborted plan to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Protests were held in several other Afghan cities on Friday which demonstrators in Herat had called a day of anger, Afghanistans Noor TV channel reports.
The BBCs Paul Wood in Kabul says Mazar-e Sharif is known to be a relatively peaceful part of the country, but that the Florida incident will raise questions of whether the city will be able to make the transition from foreign to Afghan security control later this year.
Update:The New York Times has more:
[Lal Mohammad] Ahmadzai, the [Afghan National Police] spokesman, said the demonstrators were angry about the burning of the Koran at the church of Pastor Terry Jones on Mar. 20. Mr. Jones had caused an international uproar by threatening to burn the Koran last year on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, and demonstrations at the time led to deaths throughout Afghanistan, but on a small scale. Mr. Jones subsequently had publicly promised not to burn a Koran, but then presided over a mock trial and the burning of the Koran at his small fringe church in Gainesville, Fla.Fran Ingram, an assistant at the Dove World Outreach Center, in Gainesville, Fla., said that the church had burned the Koran after a ceremony on March 20.
We put the Koran on trial and we did burn it, she said. Ms. Ingram said she and other church members were no more concerned about their safety than before the burning and the killings of the United Nations workers in Afghanistan. We have a huge stack of death threats, she said. We take precautions. I have a handgun. A lot of us have concealed weapons permits. Were a small church and we dont have money to hire security.
After news of the attack, Mr. Jones, released a statement expressing no regret for the Koran burning. He called the attack on the compound a very tragic and criminal action and called on the United States and the United Nations to take action. The time has come to hold Islam accountable, he said.

So what, he burnt a Qur'an, big deal. If he'd burnt a Bible; so what big deal. The God of the Bible is not the Bible, our God is a living God, the message in the Bible is from God, however the Bible itself is ink and paper. The Muslims killing people because someone burnt a Qur'an just shows these people do not know what they really worship.
To answer your question, no I don't see Jesus as a Qur'an burner.
*note : Muslums actually kill people for speaking out against the Qur'an yet the Qur'an speaks against the Bible by re-interpreting it to say Jesus is not God and Mohamed is greater than Jesus. I have very little doubt that the anti-christ will come out of Islam and he will be no other than their long awaited Messiah; the "Mahdi"

The preacher will be held responsible for the innocent deaths of the UN people, becasue he was forwarned NOT to do such and evil deed.
@sparrow, please don't group the militant Muslims with those Muslims who are not militant and even both groups are in ignorance fo Jesus Christ, the militant group is seeking to kill. Tp categorized thses thugs with those Muslims who are apart of them, is to categorized ALL white people as being of the KKK, or ALL blacks people as being of the Black Panthers, and this is not fair.
The pastor who says he is a Christian believers and follower of Jesus Christ should have listen to the warnings given him, for the safety of our men and weomen who are in harms way and behaved himself as a Chirstian teaching the gosple of Jesus to the lost. I suoopse his own demons got the best of him.
I wonderhow many Bibles he has sent to, or given out in the Muslim community?
No, Jesus nor the apsotles did such things as burn other religions books. What we are taught is that FIRST the gospel was preached, and the people who practiced witchcraft and magice, burned their OWN books, and came to believe in Christ, after their hearts were pricked by the HEARING of the gospel truth ( Acts chapter 19.)
Jones is very wrong and it shows he is not being led by the Holy Spirit of God as a witness unto Christ. This is not in the character of God through Jesus Christ. And this so-called preacher is in spiritual error, and leading his own people astray with his own lies of his gispel... he is a false teacher and I call him a liar up close and personal, and is a minister of satan, and is being used by satan because of the evil of his own heart.

Nope chevy, my post indicates nothing to the sorts, nor can you or anyone conclude it as such...
I said Jones is spiritually in error as a pastor who is supposedly called by the name of the Lord, he is a false teacher... and yes, he is my brother as I would like to witness to him in his search for Christ... because what he has done is not God's will. And what dopes God teach us to do when we see a brother in error? Winning souls is wise and covers a muilitude of sin, for the person who wins souls, and for the soul that has been won...
And to make my self perfectly clear, I never said, nor do I consider anyone or call anyone a brother or sister who is not seeking to know Christ in a personal relatioship.
In fact, some so-called Christians I don't called brothers or sister because as Paul says they should know the word, and Gopd has delivered them from their ignorance and sins, and we are taught not to even associste with those who have been delivered, and are suppose to be Christian, but are stilll living in sins.
And for those who don't know the word and the truth about Jesus Christ, but are in seacrh of, by their questions and wanting to know interest, Yes as Paul says, I will be all things to all men and women in order to win souls for the Kingdom. If a Muslim or JW is asking questions about the Lord, I will indeed call him/her brother or sister so that I might win some for Christ.

Maybe you should re-read your Who should we call brother thread, because in it you said exactly what you just said you never said. I'd like to stay and chat some more but I have some fellowshipping to do out on the lake with a couple of my brothers. I'll check back tomorrow.

ET,
You see many Christians standing up and sayings just what you have said in your post. One need not look hard to find Christians who have stood up and condemned the actions of the Westboro Baptist church. So where are all these non- militant Muslims? Why aren't they standing up in droves denouncing the actions of their fellow Muslims. Perhaps you are not aware of what the Qur'an teaches. Isalm may mean peace, however that is a coverup, in the end Islam is a militant religion, even the non-militant Muslims expect the heads of the infidels (christians) to eventually roll.

2sparrow,
There are many Christians who are in the silent majority and do not speak out when they should, becasue they are spiritual cowards. The only differnet in the silent majority of Muslims who don't speak out against the militant Muslims, is because of fear, they too are afraid of being killed, or their family memebers being killed beheaded.
So the militants are just after non-Muslims, they will kill even other Muslims who speak out against them and their families. This is why they keep silent, but Christians who don't speak out against wrong have no fears of anything, so tell me why they don't speak out against wrongs in society.
I witness to these Muslims who are not as you speak about. Again, you speak about militant Muslims, and not the ones I know whom I visit and they visit me... if you have never witnessed to Muslims or anyone of another religion then you would only know what you read and what you hearespecially in the media about militant Muslims. And remember Muslim is not a race of people, it is their religion by which they identify themselves as a people... too bad many Christian don't idnetify themsleves by whom they are called in Christ.
Nevertheless, Jones is spiritually wrong without Christian morals or values of interest or concern about others, and what he did, does not justify right, and he will have to pay the price for his wrong and the death of innocent UN people, and thoseinnocent MUSLIMS who tried to protect the UN workers who were also killed...
As for being called an infidel, Jones is indeed an infodel, and this is not a Muslim word, God calls anyone who denies the faith in unbelif an infidel. God also says that anyone who does not care for his own people seeing their need, and especially for those of his own household who are in need, this person denies the faith in unbelief, and is WORSE than an infidel. So what is worse than an infidel? And who would you rather call you an infidel a militant Muslim, or God? I Timothy chapter 5.
There are many Christians who are indeed infidels, and some are WORSE than infidels, this goes without saying.
