The Love of God
Posted : 23 Mar, 2011 05:10 AM
My brothers,
we are going to hear today about the love of God.
We have heard allot about how terrible will be the Day of Judgment, when the Books will be opened
And I saw the dead, small and great stand before God and the books were opened and another book was opened which is the book of life and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works....
Everything you have ever done will be brought up. However if your sins are forgiven by Jesus then those books are washed clean with the blood of the Lamb/Jesus.....
But you may say your God seems such an angry God?
God will be angry against sin on that day. But is this His true nature. If you had one word to describe God what would it be?
The one word that God uses to describe Himself is LOVE. But there is another also it is HOLY. But we will talk about this another time.
So God is LOVE. Where does it say this? Actually throughout the Bible both in the Old and the New Testaments God is described as LOVE.
See what 1 John 4:7 and following says:
Beloved let us love one another for love is of God and everyone that loves is born of God and knows God
He that loves not knows not God for God is love
In this was manifested the love of God towards us because that God sent his only begotten son into the world that we might live through Him.
In the original language the word for love is AGAPE. There are different words for love in Greek. This means Gods unconditional love (there are different words in Greek for sexual love between man and woman and also brotherly love).
So I ask you my friend do you realize that God LOVES even you. Whatever you have done wherever you have been...yes He loves you (even you)!
But you may say I have done bad things in my life. Well He loves you with agape love, unconditional love. No matter what you have done He still loves you.
I even want to tell you that no matter what you have done God can use you....look how He used Moses. Do you know Moses killed a man??
Look how God used Saul of Tarsus who was also a murderer. He changed his life and powerfully used him. He can do the same with YOU. You may even be a Christian who has gone away from the Lord. He is telling you to come HOME today.
So this God of your what is He really like? All I can tell you is that He is wonderful. You would want to get to know HIM, thats all I can say.....
One of my favorite stories in the Bible, is often called the prodigal son. It a story that Jesus told about a father and his two sons. Jesus told this story to illustrate what His Father was really like.
Read the story in Luke 15:11...its one of the most remarkable stories Jesus ever told:
11 Then He said: A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.
17 But when he came to himself, he said, How many of my fathers hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.
20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.
28 But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.
31 And he said to him, Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.
Can I just say for this young man who was Jewish to end up feeding swine would have been very humbling as Jews like Muslims hate pigs.
This story maybe should have been called the wonderful father...his father saw him coming a long way off....why is this...it makes one believe that his father was looking out for him every day.
When the father saw him he had compassion. This is what God is like. He is full of compassion and care just for you.
This is the heart of the Father. Compassion and love. He wants to show you His compassion and love.
When Jesus was here on earth He was often filled with compassion when He saw the multitudes.
Matthew 9:36 reads, But when He saw the multitudes he was moved with compassion toward them because they fainted, and were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd.
Why was the father looking out for his son, because he loved him as a father. He wanted him to come home.
I tell you whoever you are that God wants you to come home. That means to come back to Him. The father of the prodigal son loved him so much that as he saw him he ran down the road towards him. Many people will think why didn't the father beat him. After all he had disgraced his father by the way that he had lived.
But no my friend this is a picture of what God is like. He loves you so much. I believe He is looking out of the gates of Heaven for you every day waiting for you to come home to Him.
This is Gods heart love and compassion. If we reject Him then He will show us His anger. But He does not hate people. His anger comes out of a heart of love because He cares about us. A bit like a father who sees a child run out into the street and is unaware of the traffic. The father is angry as the child could have been killed. He cares about the child. So God cares about us. He wants us to come HOME to Him. Today is a day of grace. One day the day of grace will end and there will be no more mercy. So I ask you, I plead with you come home to the Father while there is still time.
The Father is a holy God and we will talk about this too. But His love can be compared to the Father in this story. This is what God the Father is really like.
Today God the Father is waiting just for you. The Bible says all the angels in Heaven rejoice over one sinner who repents. Bring joy to your heavenly Father today and repent and come home to God.
Bless you and thank you for taking the time to read this.
