Sunday 11/2/08 Pastor Joey's Sermon: Worship !!

Acts 17:16-17, Acts 17:18-34



Imagine if we would worship God like the early church did. In Acts chapter 17, Paul was in Athens while he waited for his companions to meet him. This is when Paul saw all the idol worship in Athens. He hadn't gone there to preach but because he was grieved by their idol worship, he ended up preaching the gospel to them.

Question???

When God looks at us, is He grieved with our idol worship? We all put things above or before God. Everyone either puts something or someone before God. It can be sex, money, lust, spouse, job, ego, self-measure, or self-image. Worshipping God FIRST is the only way to live. When we put other things before God, then we have troubles.

Acts 17:32-34 Some people accepted Paul's preaching and some rejected it. Imagine if we accept God FIRST.



Worship is what we value most! Worship is God being number one in our lives. The disciples had the supreme pursuit of God's Worship as being number one in their lives. Fear, Pride and Confusion are what stops people from putting the worship of God first. Many of us are afraid of what God may ask us to do. But...we need to remember that Perfect Love Casts Out All Fear!! We need to understand how much God Loves Us. The first eleven chapters of Romans are all about God's love for us.



Romans 12:1 Therefore, because God loves us so much, we need to offer our bodies to God. We have to lay down our fear, ego, and sin because we know God loves us so much!! God thinks about us. God knows how many hairs we have on our head. Those of us who are bald, God knows that too. God knows what we are going to do tomorrow and he wants us to trust him because..........

GOD HAS PLANS FOR US!! We have our being in God and Jesus Christ. We need the worship of God to find out our purpose in life. God wants to be our number one so he can protect us too.



PRIDE= We try to control things ourselves and not let God have his way. When we try and desire to control, then we are being more like Satan. Satan had pride and tried to take control over God and the angels in Heaven. See what happened to Satan? God kicked his butt out of Heaven!! We need obedience to the Lord. Obey Jesus, do what He says even if we don't agree with it.



Our Daytimer/planner, Checkbook and Thought life need to be checked out.

We need to look to see if God is all into our time. We need to check out our Daytimer/planner. Do we set aside time for prayer, the Word and church? Remember...what we believe, is what we do and everything else is just talk!!



We need to analyze our Thought life. Do we think of God thru out the day? Do scriptures come to mind? When we think evil thoughts do we ask Jesus to clear our mind? We need to look at our thought life.



We need to look at our Checkbook. This is a great measurement to see if God and Jesus are in our checkbook life. The giving of our finances is another form of worship...The Tithes. Matt 6:21 Where your treasure is, there is where your heart will be also. vs 24 We cannot serve God and money too. Luke 6:37 Give and it will be given unto you... God wants to financially bless us!!



Abraham tithed BEFORE the Law even came. Jesus talked about tithes and that the money we own is NOT ours, its God's. We are to honor God FIRST with our Worship/Tithes. 10% off the top FIRST! It is God who gave us the job and the ability to work the job in the first place!! Worship God with our finances. God said for us to go ahead and test him and see if he doesn't open the windows of Heaven and pour down blessings upon us.



We need to check our Daily Timer/Planner

We need to check our Checkbook

We need to check our Thought Life

We need to Worship God FIRST!!

We need to check our idol worship.

We need to stop our idol worship by surrendering unto God EVERYTHING and ALL of ourselves to Him.
