10/26/08 Pastor Joey's Sermon - - Study on the Book of Acts



The human heart is the same in whatever society we live in whether its 2000 years ago or now. The Word of God is to shape and change our life.



Phillip and the Ethiopian Eunuch Acts 8:29

The Holy Spirit told Phillip to talk to the Ethiopian eunuch. We need to slow down and listen to the Holy Spirit. He will lead and use us. Phillip explained the Old Testament scipture. Act 8:34-39 He taught gospel of Jesus and then baptised the eunuch. There was joy and a life change for the Ethiopian eunuch. This is the way is should be for us. We must allow our lives to be interruptible to be used by God. Phillip didn't wait but baptised the Ethiopian eunuch right then and there!



Lydia's Family/ the Jailer's Family Acts 16:14-15, Acts 16:29-34 Lydia responded to the gospel and invited the disciples to her house. They preached to her family and they were saved. She then opened her house to the disciples and she helped and served the ministry.

Paul and Silas were thrown into jail after they did good by casting out a evil spirit from this psychic woman. The men who made money off her "scam", got mad and had Paul and Silas thrown into jail. This sounds like what we have here and now with this "Wall Street" mess. While Paul and Silas were in jail, a earthquake shook and opened the doors. The jailer asked for salvation right then and there. He then took Paul and Silas to his house where his whole family listened to the gospel and got saved. The jailer then fed the disciples and tended to their wounds.



The disciples in Acts were used of God when they were in tough circumstances. They stayed focused on God instead of always focusing on their problem and complaining about it. The disciples stayed focused on God and prayed for deliverance. We need to ask God for what we need and to learn from our situation. Among the people involved in our situation, theres always someone that God wants us to minister to and wittness about Jesus to.



Just like the jailer was at the jail that Paul and Silas were imprisoned in, so there is someone that we are dealing with in our circumstance, that God want us to share Jesus with. Jesus died for people, NOT for our circumstances. We need to learn from our problems, look for people to minister to and we need to KEEP the Joy of the Lord!



Apollus, Priscilla and Aquilla Acts 18:26-28

Prescilla and Aquilla heard Apollos preach. They needed to deposit a bit more gospel teaching into him. Apollos then went on to preach and publically debate the Jews to get folk saved. We are called of God to give to others what he has given to us spiritually. LOVE !!

1) What do you need to happen that will push you over the edge so you will follow Jesus Christ?



2) How is your Joy level?



3) Are you looking for how God can use you in your "unlikeable" circumstance?



4) Are you doing something? Discipling? Wittnessing? Opening your house??



5) Do you need a Prescilla and Aquilla in your life? What are you doing about it?



These questions will help you work on some things in your life. They, God and Jesus can radically change your life if you let them.
