Every denomination has been taught to view the gift of tongues differently. I'm curious as to what everyone believes in regards to the gift of Tongues.

I believe Acts 2:4 is the gift of the Holy Ghost as taught in scripture, and is a subsequent act after receiving the lord Jesus. Tongues is the evidence and that is not the gift of the tongues, which is another topic.

I believe it is when you speak in a language that is not of this earth.Acts chap.2

I also believe that there are other gifts that show you are baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Tongues is not a must.

No where does it say you must speak in tongues.

PJ, where in the Bible does it say that in order for you to be a Christian, you must speak in tongues?

It is does not say that anywhere, but the word does say that disobedience is sin.

Most question is why would you reject anything that Jesus offers you?

some will have the gift of prophcey, some the gift of tongues,

and some wisdom, ect.

yes, I am very sure. The word never says everyone baptized in the Holy Spirit will speak in tongues. It always says it is a sign, As in one of many signs,

The gift of miracles and healing are a few more.

Not all believers have the same gifts.

some are teachers some song writers ect.

We all are different.

Yes, I am very sure.

I speak in tongues, however some misguided preachers have taught that tongues is the only sign.

That is a false idea.

I think the gift of tongues is a gift but unless you are able to translate what you are saying, its not from the Holy Spirit and therefore not of God

One has to divide the word of truth, and distinguish between speaking in tongues and the gift of tongues.

Acts ch 2:4 is about receiving the holy spirit

Acts 10:44-46 receiving the holy ghost

Acts 19:2-6 receiving the holy ghost

Notice in each occasion the word says they spoke in tongues.

Satan works hard in the church distorting this truth, to create doubt that Christians will reject the power of God

When the gift of tongues manifests there is an interpretation.

When you speak in tongues it is not necessary to interpret.

In each account if you will study it out your self, you will notice all received, all spoke.

This truth I have known and walked in since 1985, I firmly believe this is the biggest cause of division in the church, that is the lack of receiving the holy spirit.

Anyone can walk in the truth as we are instructed by the lord Jesus, walk in the light as he is in the light, it is the lord Jesus that baptizes Christians with the holy ghost and fire.

paul the apostle wrote unless you have an interprter do not speak in tongues.

That is for a public demenstration rule.

In private he does say to pray in tongues, that is ok.
