"Between the scribe who has read and the prophet who has seen there is a difference as wide as the sea. We are today overrun with orthodox scribes, but the prophets, where are they? The hard voice of the scribe sounds over evangelicalism, but the Church waits for the tender voice of the saint who has penetrated the veil and has gazed with a inward eye upon the wonder that is God.

More spiritual progress can be made in one short moment of speechless silence in the awesome presence of God than in years of mere study. It is only when our vaunted wisdom has been met and defeated in a breathless encounter with Omniscience that we are permitted to really know, when prostrate and wordless the soul receives divine knowledge like a flash of light on a sensitized plate. The exposure may be brief, but the results are permanent."

Wow, this is so awesome. I remember the first time I read this and I started spending more of my prayer time saying nothing so I could finally hear the still small voice of God whispering His amazing Truths to me.

PJ,

He never came out and said one way or another, although from his strings it is obvious he had "Arminian Tendencies "...lol. However he does have a good quote about Calvinism vs Arminianism. I'll see if I can find it. In the mean time I think you will particularly appreciate this quote from A.W. Tozer. :

"Among Conservatives we find persons who are Bible-taught but not Spirit-taught. They concede truth to be something which they can grasp with the mind. If a man holds to the fundamentals of the Christians faith he is thought to possess divine truth, but it does not follow. There is no truth apart from the Spirit. The most brilliant intellect may be imbecilic when confronted with the mysteries of God. For a man to understand revealed truth requires and act of God equal to the original act which inspired the text."

Here it is PJ,

I was preparing to go to Nyack College. Before I left there was one burning question I had in mind, and I went to Dr. Tozer and said, "Could you give me some advice concerning the problem of Calvinism versus Arminianism?" And I'll never forget the advice he gave me. At the time I thought it was rather inconclusive and not too helpful. But I listened carefully. He said, "My son, when you get to college you're going to find that all of the boys will be gathered in a room discussing and arguing over Arminianism and Calvinism night after night after night. I'll tell you what to do, Cliff. Go to your room and meet God. At the end of four years you'll be way down the line and they'll still be where they started because greater minds than yours have wrestled with this problem and have not come up with satisfactory conclusions. Instead, learn to know God."

One more! ;-)

"God will not hold us responsible to understand the mysteries of election, predestination and the divine sovereignty. The best and safest way to deal with these truths is to raise our eyes to God and in deepest reverence say, `O Lord, Thou knowest.' Those things belong to the deep and mysterious Profound of God's omniscience. Prying into them may make theologians, but it will never make saints."
