Bible Shopping.....

I have been researching on line and gone to acouple of Bible stores in different towns looking for a new "Study Bible". My first "study" Bible was given to me in the mid-eighties and ever since then I've had this thing for Study Bibles and have collected a few through the years. However, I haven't been Bible shopping for myself in many years and am amazed at the number of choices in Study Bibles now days!

Of the ones I have collected over the years, I mainly use only these 3

1) Ryrie Study Bible, NASB

2) NIV Study Bible

3) Life Application Study Bible, NLT

So far this is what I have researched:

1) ESV Study Bible

2) NET Study Bible - (haven't been able to find one in a store)

3) NKJV Study Bible

4) HCSB Study Bible

I also stumbled across acouple of interesting Bibles:

1) C.S. Lewis Bible

2) Apologetics Study Bible

Does anyone have anything to share about any of the above or something not listed you like or don't like?

And...

What is your favorite version or translation of the Bible? (NASB, NIV ext....)

Any favorite Study Bibles?

I use the Thompson Chain reference bible. Also, I prefer the KJV over the other bible versions for many reasons. And that's my two cents.

And for those who can't get past thee, ye and thou..here is a quick guide:

Anything that starts with a "T" is singular e.g. thee, thou.

Anything that starts with a "Y" is plural e.g. you, your etc.

Have a great and blessed day!

I use a very old KJV (1965), and a NKJV, and Matthew Henry's Commentary (Volume One-1961).

I would recommend the ESV study Bible:

They sell this one at my local Christian bookstore.

I would also highly recommend the Reformation study Bible, which comes in NKJ and ESV.

I have also found this one at my local Christian bookstore.

Those are the best study Bibles I know of.

I know John MacArthur has a study Bible, and I would recommend checking it out.

Now, here is one last recommendation, but not so much for serious Bible study, but just if you are interested in Archaeology.

The NIV Archaeological study Bible, is my favorite Bible to read because it is PACKED full of interesting articles and photos of everything we have dug up pertaining to the Bible.

Here is the link:

Now, for us older folks, this bible even comes in large print!

I just love this Bible, because I am very interested in Biblical archaeology.

I hope this helps, Twosparrows.....

In Christ,

James

James,

Yes, I have looked at the ESV study bible and like it, but think I like the HCSB study bible just a little better, am I mean just a little, it is almost a toss up. The notes in the HCSB appear to be more open and honest. As for the Reformation Bible , and John Macarthur's, I saw them but don't want study notes written from just one perspective. That is what I liked about the zondervan NIV study notes, it presented all accepted views. Also have looked at the Archaeology study bible, I liked it alot, however not what I am looking for in a "primary" Bible.

Thanks for the input.
