Hi!

A bit ago I was chatting with a wonderful lady about tattoos, and whether they were godly or not.

I don't have a tattoo, and personally I wouldn't get one: 1) it hurts to get one, 2) it limits networking opportunities here (in more conservative circles).

However, I am not against them...and don't think God is against them either.

My argument: Revelations 19 describes Jesus on a white horse... its definitely referring to Jesus here because verse 13 says he was called the Word of God. Well, in verse 16 it goes on to say that "on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords."

That sounds like a sort of celestial kind of tattoo to me. So, maybe we shouldn't be so narrow minded. How about we not mix up Christian tradition and narrative with scripture, as the two are often different and conflicting.

I assume you have thought this through and determined Jesus is riding in short pants?

(just a thought)

I wouldnt worship them.

(Lev 19:28) Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

Or promote them.

(Rom 16:17) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

For those who have them.

(Mat 26:28) For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Live,

Well, I must say, I have never heard anyone use THAT verse in support of Tattoo's! LOL!

Anyways, you said we should not mix up tradition, with Scripture, and I think that is a good point.

Did you know that Coptic Christians HAVE tattoo's and that the Tattoo is important to them?

There are also other Christians who believe that having a Christian tattoo, is important.

I can't really use the two verses in the Old Testament, to say that Tattoo's are wrong, because I believe those verses are about making scars on your body to appease dead spirits.

In Ancient cultures near the Israelite's people believed that when a dead body was near them that evil spirits would come and harm them unless they took sharp objects and scarred themselves in order to appease the spirits.

God did not want His chosen people to engage in superstition, and told them not to do it.

I also think tattoo's are WAY down the list of things to be concerned about!

God has MUCH more important things for you to concerned about, and to KNOW concerning His Word.

In Christ,

James

Let me try that again.

Lev 19:28: A law yes, but refers to Idiolatry, of which we are not to do ever.

Rom 16:17: Refers to the one who set division with false doctrine.

Mat 26:28: no worries, murder, white lie and all in between, we all get washed by the Blood.

Beware

There is a company that has developed a tattoo ink that can replace RFID chips that are now being used in dogs, its coming and will be used on cattle, the manufacture even says its purpose is also suitable for humans use, and can be read through solid walls. Look it up.

So, if Revelations did make the canonical cutwhich I believe it did then Revelations 19:16 still is true. So, if what you are saying then is also true, we know that we cannot promote that verse, or definitely keep it hush-hush, i.e. suggest he changes out of those short pants into something more appropriate. However, you did point out that Jesus can forgive anyone, so (Matt 26:28) that includes himselfthankfully.

I think though, a question thats begging to be asked is, was the law made for man, or man made for the law? The Bible says answer a full according to his folly, and then also states answer not a full according to his folly. I dont know, but I take those verses to signify that there is a time and place for everything. The Bible doesnt contradict itself it only addresses issues (sometimes the same issue) during different time periods and under different circumstances.
