Ro 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

------That's OK James, I got this one ; )--------

Oh Yes Jude I believe!!!

But this is a very complicated verse, we must interpret this verse properly so that less intelligent people will not be misled.

First, the world doesn't really mean the whole world.

Second, God really doesn't love the whole world. Some people he hates even before they are born, like Essau.

Thirdly, Whosoever doesnt really mean whosoever, it means who ever has the "ability".

And, Since we are all spiritually dead none of us has the ability to believe.

You must be born again "before" you can believe.

In summary God does not love the whole world, He only loves the ones He chose before the world began, the "elect". Only the elect will be given the ability to believe. Therefore, Whosoever = The Elect.

To interpret this verse properly, it should read : 'For God so loved the elect, that He gave His only begotten Son, that when the elect are given the ability to believe, they will not perish, but have everlasting life'

The "perish" part is difficult to interpret because if the elect are spiritually dead before they are given the ability to believe then how can they perish if they don't believe...aren't they already dead? We have our scholars working on this now and are hopeful we can soon interpret this on line our doctrine.

Did I do good James???

"for God so loved the World"

In the days, that this was written, for all of recorded History, God only saved those who were Jews, and this meant, those in ONE geographical area.

They HAD to live near the temple in order to give sacrifices.

NOW, for the FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, God was going to do something new.

He was going to save people FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, not just Jerusalem.

God has chosen, and loves people from all parts of the World, and this NEW IDEA had to be taught.

Some people have insisted that God sent Jesus to die for the purpose of bringing salvation to everyone without exception, but ONLY AS A POSSIBILITY.

However, Jesus makes clear that the salvation of those

whom the Father "gives me", and ONLY THOSE is not a MERE POSSIBILITY, but an absolute certainty;

"and they come to Me"

see John 6:37-40; 10:14-18; 17:9

The point made by "the world" is that Christs saving work is not limited to one time or place but applies to the elect all over the world. Those who do not receive the remedy God has provided in Christ will perish. It remains true that anyone who believes will not die (be separated from God) but live in God's presence forever.

In Christ,

James

Two, if that weren't so seriously sad [and scary], I'd laugh. But ya know... your rewording of John 3:16 pretty much sums up a portion of the twisted belief of Calvinism. My mind cannot fathom a belief that includes God not loving every sinning whosoever in the World or Jesus not dying for the entire World, to include those who will reject Him. Even as He was beaten and dying, Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." He died for the very ones who crucified Him! Even asking the Father to forgive them! What love!

James ->"The point made by "the world" is that Christs saving work is not limited to one time or place but applies to the elect all over the world. "

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:8

It's a real shame your belief doesn't include all sinners.

James->"Those who do not receive the remedy God has provided in Christ will perish. It remains true that anyone who believes will not die (be separated from God) but live in God's presence forever."

Your belief doesn't afford 'the remedy' to all. Those who do not receive the remedy don't have the choice afforded them. They were created to reject Christ.

SavedinChrist71,

Just a thought......

Calvinism puts the Sovereignty of God paramount. Yet the Cross shows God puts His Love paramount.

It is a interesting meditation to see how God is Sovereign through Love. However how could one ever meditate on how God is Love through Sovereignty?

Good thought, Two. You're right. I'm seeing over and over again the sovereignty of God, but very little in the way of love when it comes to the Cross. Calvinism changes the nature of God, God being love, by their belief that He created some to reject Christ, thereby destined to hell without the benefit of grace.
