Sinless perfection

I recently heard someone say I know my Bible yet in a breath or two later they said I dont sin. It seems they do know their Bible or at least have a lot of it memorized.

My question is, do you think this is a figurative response I dont sin, figurative being maybe they think since saved they will be white as snow on judgement day and cant sin?

Or maybe a literal response where they fully believe that they dont sin at all?

Or maybe Im missing something entirely different, anyway I didnt put in scripture to back my opinion and sway anyone in hope of getting more insight.

Not sure what the person who said,'I don't sin', was implying.

I know I sin sometimes, but thank God; He always convicts my heart and I repent(truly regret the sin and ask His forgiveness).

Not one of us is perfect--''tho some of the ones who Know their Bible would have us think they are".

Like you said, they have it memorized--------- but we all know satan does too.

I've seen folks who can quote scriptures right and left. They KNOW the Bible but they don't KNOW Jesus.

When they said they don't sin, were they bragging about it? Did they have the least bit of pride, self accomplishment?.... lol.....well so much for that!

I can tell from your topic post you know the answer. So lets say for the sake of discussion a person can actually pull this off, should they be saying so? We know Jesus did, did he say this of Himself, I can think of only one verse off the top of my head where He said something similar, however the context is entirely different.

Next lets look at what the apostles said of themselves ....and they do address this subject in themselves, however their declarations are quite opposite of the person in your post.

Paul counted himself as a great sinner, unable to always do what he knew to do. John is not shy about it either, in fact he says, if one claims to be without sin, they are a liar and the truth is not in them. (some interpret this verse to mean the unbeliever or a believer who is not yet completely sanctified yet here on earth...I disagree with this interpretation)

My opinion : A person who says this is a person whom the Holy Spirit has yet to show them the depth of their own humanity.

I John 1 vs 10 :If we say that we have not sinned, we have made Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

This person may have been figuratively implying that they are dead to sin as in Romans 6:11, and not literally clamming they dont sin.

Im glad the Lord shut my mouth, I was ready to pounce.

(Jas 1:19) Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

(Heb 13:2) Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Sinless Perfectionism comes directly from the denomination that brought Arminianism to America.....

John Wesley, founder of the Methodist denomination, wrote a book on it! It is called "A plain account of Christian perfectionism"

I bought a copy last year from a Holiness church bookstore.

(The Holiness church broke off the Methodist church about a hundred years ago, because the Methodists were not arminian enough!)

Anyways, they basically redefine sin, in order to say they can achieve this state. Arminianism can lead to universalism, but it can also lead to legalism. You will find much legalism in Wesleyan, and Holiness churches, and they will teach sinless perfectionism.

It is, as flyby says, bad theology, and contradicts plenty of Scripture.

In Christ,

James
