I am studing early American history. A lot of missionary work is involved with the Indians and as we Americans well now, a lot of people came here for religious freedom.

Lets talk about all this.Dennis

James replies:

EXCELLENT IDEA! Michael Crichton, the science fiction writer, said:

"If you don't know history, you are like a leaf that does not realize it is part of a tree."

Here is my impersonation of the Modern American Christian:

"Hey, I have the Bible and the Holy Spirit, I don't need to know any church history.

We live in an anti-historical age.

As Christians we should have the OPPOSITE attitude!

The apostle Paul said concerning the Body of Christ and how we NEED each other:

"Does the hand say to the foot, I have no need of you?"

Of course the hand needs the foot, and we Christians NEED to know what our brothers and sisters thought and believed, and suffered for.

Time to ask some very important Questions!

What about that church you go to? Where did they get their beliefs? Did their ideas come from the pastor they had five years ago, or has your church always believed those things?

How did your denomination come into being?

Do you believe things about the Bible that the Early Christians did not?

Do you even know what the Early Christians believed?

I mean after all they had the same Bible you and I have.

Wouldn't it be important to know that what you believe is just the same as them? Wouldn't it be important to know if you believe something completely different that them?

In Christ,

James

How many cowboys does it take to change a light bulb?

Three; one to change the light bulb,

And two to reminisce how good the old light bulb one was.

History IS important, there is much to learn from history.

A wise man learns from his experience,

A even wiser man learns from the experience from others.

However, it must be remembered the people in history are just people like you and I.

We can learn from those in the past, we can learn they became what they focused on.

Those who focused on God in nature became Pagans

Those who focused on God in science became Scientologists

Those who focused on God in golden tablets became Mormons

Those who focused on God in apostolic succession became Catholics

Those who focused on God in 5 points of doctrine became Calvinists

Those who focused on God in Christ became Christians.

I am going to start with the puritans since I am studing them in my American History class.

Some facts you should know.

They liked to drink hard cider. they even gave it to their childern. the only other drink was water.

It is believed that some of the livestock may have eaten poisonous weeds cause young people to have seizures.

Thus causeing the Salem Witch trials. This is just a theory.

Only Christians could hold an elected office.

One place to start would be Sir Frances Bacon, whom I believe may have know of the Americas long before Columbus discovered them. If I remember right this guy wanted to make the new land, New Atlantis. Funny that many of the founding fathers followed this doctrine(look it up it could make you sick), it looks to me as though when Benjamin Franklin told the lady that asked sir what kind of government do we have? was pure sarcasm when he replied a republic if you can keep it (quote butchered sry)

The Puritans seemed like a Godly group other that the burning of the so called witches.

Dont miss the 1800" when most new American religions started each with their own bible!

I believe in 1932? the Federal Reserve was created, and 1945? The UNs second attempt succeeded . What were their intentions and who was there sprit leader because thats whos running the world now and then.

When studying AH one should always keep in mind what President JFK said in one of his last speeches talking of trouble of monolithic proportion.

When studying true history a strong trust in Jesus Christ is essential.

We all know who rules the world; (Joh 8:44) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

And us? (Joh 15:19) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Worry not! (1Jn 4:4) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

(Heb 11:7) By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

(cool, Noah moved with the fear of God and became heir of Jesus Christ by faith. hehe brother Noah!)

Cool post!

You know what JFK and Lincoln have in common?

They both took us off the Federal Reserve Bank and were going to have our own government print our own money.

(you probably knew that already)

Speaking of history, I just read that John the Baptist disciples were at odds with Jesus' disciples even way after the resurrection!

Did you know that it was Calvin's followers and not Calvin that wrote the five points and it was Arminian's followers that wrote their 5 points in response to them?

Hahaha....some things never change!
