10/5/08 Pastor Joey's Sermon **Dead Presidents: HABITS

Titus 2:11-12, Prov 27:17, Col 3:23

Imagine if you could live your life happy, debt free, loving your career, felt God was with you, you fought sin and lived life to the fullest. We can love God with everything in us but we need to develop healthy habits in our lives. If we don't then we will be handcuffed in our lives. We must un-handcuff our lives.

Developing healthy habits: President George Washington's habits.

**He was teachable.

**He surrounded himself with smart people.

**He was a hard worker.

**He believed your habits can affect you rather good or bad.

We must develop self-discipline Gal 6:9 Man reaps what he sows. Sow an act and we reap the habit. This then afects your character. It takes a lot of self-discipline to develop healthy habits. Self discipline leads to healthy habits and healthy habits lead to life fullness.

Titus 2:11-12

Let us be sober, righteous and godly-- self controlled and self-disciplined again and again and again. We must deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. We must mature in Christ. We must grow up in Christ to where we leave the baby blanket and pacifier behind!!

How do we do this? Self-discipline ourselves. Everything is at stake so we MUST do this!!

****Self-Discipline Ourselves:

1) Develop a Healthy Inner World: We need an inner world that is at rest with us and God. Where it is...its calm internally. Titus 2:11 The grace of God teachs us self-control. It peels off the old junk in our lives. This is the junk that keeps us from self-discipline. When we understand how much God loves us, the junk in our lives begins to peel off. This enables us to have a healthy inner life==PEACE.

Phil 4:7 The Peace that passes all understanding.

Phil 4:8 We need to think on, focus on good things.

2) Healthy People: Surround yourself with healthy people. Prov 27:17

God has placed people in our lives to sharpen us-we are to sharpen one another. We need to take advantage of the people God has placed around us and we need to ask them/tell them whats going on in our lives. They will tell us if its right/wrong and help us. Don't keep secrets!! Use the good, godly, loving people around you to get help. Don't be prideful/shameful. Don't wait till our lives are destroyed to get the help we need. Why not expose our life to get help before it becomes destroyed. Expose yourself to get help.

3) Hard Work: Col 3:23 Whatever work we do, do as unto the Lord and not unto man. Go forward and be willing to work hard. When we take a hit, get up and keep on going.

4) Personal Vision: Have a personal vision for your life and write it down. Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish.

Have your heart be ALIVE!! Go get it! Go get what God has called you to do and to have. Go get it and do it God's way.

We must all pray that God gives us the power to have self-discipline so we can develop healthy habits. Ask God to reveal himself to us and we will be able to develop Healthy Habits.

AMEN
