Though the personal redemption was accomplished on the Passover, national redemption was
not to take place until almost 6 months later on Yom Kippurim. This was the day that the high
priest, and only the High Priest, was allowed to enter the presence of YHVH in the Holy of Holies
and sprinkle the blood of the lamb on the mercy seat. This is what gave all of Israel
redemption, but this time it was national. This takes us to the crucifixion where the Lamb of
Elohim was placed on a tree and His Blood poured into the earth. It was directly under that
location that the Ark of the Covenant was waiting for centuries, placed perfectly to receive the
Blood of Messiah as it made its way through the earth and onto the mercy seat of the Ark. It
was not only a time of personal redemption, but also of national redemption. The Lamb of
Elohim and the High Priest were on this day functioning as one, just as the Shema says. It was
then that the words of Hebrews 9 came to pass:
11 But Messiah being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater
and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this
building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he
entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
What we saw in the Jordan was the passing of the torch so that Yeshua could be revealed and
accomplish that which He chose to accomplish. If there are some that still might be skeptical
that this is what happened, or that Messiah was indeed the priest after the older of Melchizedek, there is some information in 1 Chronicles 24 that we need to examine. As we discussed earlier, 1 Chronicles 24 lists for us the 24 priests as recorded by Shemaiah, where the
8th of these priests was Aviyah, from whom Zachariah and Yochanan were descended.(THIS IS TALKING ABOUT LUKE 1 WHERE IT TELLS THE STORY OF YOHANAN BETTER KNOW AS JOHN THE BAPTIST )AND HIS FATHERS LINK TO THE LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD) There is
more information there that we need to see:
6 ) And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them
before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar.
7) Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,
8 ) The third to Harim,
the fourth to Seorim, 9The fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, 10The seventh
to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, 11The ninth to Jeshuah, the tenth to Shecaniah,
12The eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,
The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Aviyah, and the ninth to Yeshua. The progression is clear:
from the course of Aviya, where My Father is Yah, to the course of Yeshua, where Yah is
Salvation. Though Shemaiah was certainly unaware of it at the time, he was actually
chronicling the priesthood from Yochanan the Immerser as it was passed down to Yeshua.
Interestingly enough, in Hebrew the meaning of Yardin (Jordan) is flowing down. One last thing
to look at here is the meaning of just some of the names of the priestly course. It paints a very
clear picture for us as to what is going on in the Priesthood. We will start with the fifth priest
and end with the 16th. This will give us just half of the 24 courses of the priesthood as
presented in 1 Chronicles 24:
5. Malchiyah My King is YHVH
6. Miyamin From the right hand
7. Hakkoz To awaken; to arouse
8. Aviyah My Father is YHVH
9. Yeshua YHVH is salvation
10. Shecaniah Dweller with YHVH
11. Eliashib God restores
12. Yakim He will raise
13. Chuppah Covering; canopy
14. Yeshebeab Dwelling of the father
15. Beelgah Cheerfulness (to gleam;smile)
16. Eemer He has said
Put these all together, and we have something along the lines of the following:
My King is YHVH, who is sent from the right hand to awaken and arouse. My
Father is Yahweh, and Yeshua (Yahweh is salvation) is a dweller with Yahweh. El
(God) restores, and He will raise a covering or canopy in the dwelling of the
Father in cheerfulness. He has said it.
The seed of YHVH is the Word of YHVH. The Word of YHVH is the light. The light of YHVH is His
glory. The seed is the Word, the Word is the light and the light is His glory. It is a glorious thing
to behold the Word of our Creator!
