The word of God teaches us that man is a three part being: Spirit, Soul and body.
Let's look at this scripture first and consider it in lieu of man being a three part being:
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Gen 1:26 � And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
So we see that God is a Spirit and we are made in his image and likeness, thus telling us man is a Spirit.
Pr 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Eze. 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
This is talking about the new birth, notice how spirit and heart are together.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Ps. 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
2nd Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
We know that by the old testament and new testament, that, that is new is the spirit of man, the soul (mind, intellect, emotions) has not been changed, neither is the body.
1Co 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
First Peter describes this man real well:
1Pe 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
notice how Peter puts the heart and spirit together
Paul speaks of the spirit of man:Ro 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
2Co 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
This verse also tells us that the spirit of man is renewed daily, thus he is always new. remember this
We were givin a spirit when we were created, and are given a new spirit ie, the Holy Spirit when we are born again. The Holy Spirit has the power to do what the spirit of man could not do by itself, namely to control the mind, heart and body.
Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Ec 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
Zec 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

Man is a Spirit being, that has a soul, and lives in a body.
