The two components spoken of in this scripture?

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discern er of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word of God teaches us that man is a three part being: Spirit, Soul and body.

Let's look at this scripture first and consider it in lieu of man being a three part being:

Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

So we see that God is a Spirit and we are made in his image and likeness, thus telling us man is a Spirit.

With the Spirit of man, or his spirit he contacts the spirit realm.

With his soul (mind, emotions, intellect, reasoning's) he contacts the mental realm.

With his Body he contacts the physical world or the things of the earth.

When the bible speaks of the heart of man as in proverbs 3:5,6 it is talking about the spirit of man and also note it makes it clear to us that we are not to lean on our own understanding, or the soulish man.

I will do an other post substanting man as a spirit and also the heart is the same as the Spirit.

Deep post....I started at one times to search out this matter in scripture and it got quite complicated. I remember coming somewhat to a opinion but never really solidified it. It seemed to me we have:

* a mind,

*a body,

*a spirit

* a heart

* a soul

It seemed to me that the body, heart and mind was a type of triune being into which God puts a spirit thus creating a living soul. The soul when joined with the Holy Spirit becomes a New Creation.

Anyway...really looking forward to others opinions on this !!!

Genesis 2:7 (King James Version)

7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground

(Body),

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life

(Spirit);

and man became a living soul

(Human Being).

The Soul is a combination of Body and Spiritit is in Essence what we (humans) are. It is what will be left when the Spirit in us dies. Our Soul is Immortal and will be reunited in Heaven with our Heavenly Body or sent to be tormented for eternity in Hell.

My Opinion (I havent check The Catechismso I dont know what The Church believes).

Notice in Hebrews 4:12 the clear separation of soul and spirit.

I am going to look into the Hebrew scripture, but at first glance I would say that only scripture is sharp enough to divide in a man that part which comes from God and that part which comes from us.

That is exactly what it says.

When you are looking truth you are not grounded in all you have to do is meditate on the scripture.

I realize this is not taught much in the church, but it is the truth none the less, and the reason there is so much confusion, most christians try to know God from their soul or mind and you can not do it.

I will build another post showing the spirit of man in scripture, or as he is also called the inward man.

1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This scripture as does Hebrews 4:12 show the three distinct parts of man.

There is your two witnesses, man is a three part being.

Religion usually calls the spirit and the soul the same.
