God has no beginning and no end. . . So what has He been doing all that time before he created this place? And what will He be doing afterwards? I would think that we figure into the " afterwards" scheme of things. . . .maybe?

Interesting, What if we are a part of the beginning of something even more grand than our universe and all of it's mysteries? We tend to think that this is all about us but maybe we are part of something that is all about something else!

Thunder, I think you may be on to something; like you need to build a tool to do a job, which may be to build another tool to do another job which may be to build another tool. . . . and so on. . .

I've heard it taught that 1) we will all worship God for ever and ever together in heaven and (or) 2) God has a Work for us after Jesus comes again and judges everyone.

I'm content to wait and see. God has a plan, of that I'm sure. It will include us who will be in heaven with him. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know who holds the future.

The answer is scriptural.

In the Days of the Kingdom

The premise is, as I understand it, what are we going to do in so-called heaven when we get there. To some, in reading their comments, it seems to them to be a boring place. The scriptures seem to indicate otherwise.

Take 1 Corinthians 2:9-16 for instance:

but just as it is written,

THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD,

AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN,

ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God,

which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one.

For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:9-16).

Or Isaiah 65:17-25). For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;

And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.

But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;

For behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing

And her people for gladness.

I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people;

And there will no longer be heard in her

The voice of weeping and the sound of crying.

No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days,

Or an old man who does not live out his days;

For the youth will die at the age of one hundred

And the one who does not reach the age of one hundred

Will be thought accursed.

They will build houses and inhabit them;

They will also plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

They will not build and another inhabit,

They will not plant and another eat;

For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people,

And My chosen ones will wear out the work of their hands.

They will not labor in vain,

Or bear children for calamity;

For they are the offspring of those blessed by the LORD,

And their descendants with them.

It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.

The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpents food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain, says the LORD (ISAIAH 65:17-25).

Eye has not seen nor has the ear heard, nor has it even entered into our imaginations what God has for His overcomers. We cant even conceive or imagine it. It thus transcends all human intellect. That it because, as Paul said above, this is spiritual knowledge, combining spiritual (not intellectual) thoughts with spirit. God is a spirit and those who would worship Him must do so in spirit (John 4:23-25). For us to speculate what will happen to us as we become reborn into the spirit realm is a futile as creation itself is. Whatever we imagine, no matter how wonderful, will not describe it because we cannot conceive it except through the spirit, our spirits in contact with His.

Paul makes a feeble attempt to describe his experience being caught up to the 3rd Heavens: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years agowhether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knowssuch a man was caught up to the third heaven. And I know how such a manwhether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak (2 Corinthians 12:2-4).

Just the fact that Revelation says there will be no more sorrow, grief, sickness, death, war, etc (Revelation 21) should be enough to convince me I want to create this place here on earth as God has commanded.

Yeah, I'm not sure how anyone got "floating around on clouds" out of the bible. We won't even be in "heaven" for eternity. We'll be on the new earth. And as far as God's plan goes, we are the answer for the sin problem. I believe He created beings with free will, with the choice to turn away from Him...and then one did. God is now showing the universe that His way is the best way and that He does have our best interests at heart...even enough to die for us. After this, the universe will see the results of sin and the love of God in very sharp contrast and sin won't happen again.
