"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me." Exodus 20:2-3
A very favorite book among Catholics is entitled, "The Glories of Mary, Mother of God." It's author is St. Alphonsus Liguori. The translator dedicates the work to Mary, "the Queen of Angels and of Men," with "all veneration and respect," and says it is "designed to increase the number and fervor of her worshipers." Here is the table of contents:
How great should be our confidence in Mary, Queen of Mercy.
How great our confidence should be in Mary as our mother.
The great love borne us by Mary our mother.
Mary is the refuge of repentant sinners.
Mary is our life, since she obtains us the pardon of our sins.
Mary is our life, because she obtains our perseverance.
Mary renders death sweet to her servants.
Mary is the hope of all the children of Adam.
Mary is the hope of the sinner.
Mary's readiness to assist those who invoke her.
The power of Mary to defend those who invoke her in temptations.
Necessity of Mary's intercession in order to obtain salvation.
Mary is a powerful Advocate.
Mary is a compassionate Advocate.
Mary is mediatrix of peace between God and sinners.
Mary is ever watchful to support our miseries.
Mary preserves her servants from hell.
Mary succours her servants in purgatory.
Mary conducts her servants to heaven.
The greatness of Mary's mercifulness and goodness.
The sweetness of the holy name of Mary in life and in death.
In "The Psalter of the Virgin" we find the last two Psalms of David thus thrown into parody, and applied to Mary instead of Jehovah: "Sing unto our Lady a new song: let her praise be in the congregation of the just. Praise our Lady in her holiness; praise her in her virtues and miracles; praise her, you choirs of patriarchs and prophets; praise her, you army of martyrs; let everything that has breath praise our lady!"

Roman Catholicism is a gigantic system of . . .
Mary-worship,
saint-worship,
image-worship, and
relic-worship.
In one word, it is a huge organized idolatry.

Very Interesting article James...This is Why the Reformation happened ?...Pulling away from the Roman Catholic Church...due to these bestows upon Mary and not Teaching the Gospel of Jesus* Christ ?...
I was reading my Bible last night and came across...I believe it was in Matthew...maybe Mark...they have much the same sequence of events...When some of the Disciples called to Jesus* saying...Your Mother and Brothers are outside...and Jesus* replied...Who is my Mother ? Who is my Brother ? for THESE...( All those around Him )...are my Mother and Brother...
Jesus* has never made mention nor is it recorded that I have found, that we are to Revere His Earthly Mother over Him...Respect Her yesbut WorshipNO !!!!...
Anywho...Thanks for shareing the article...xo

PJ what is wrong with reformation theology? it was the beginning of the reintroduction of Jesus as the way to God.
It got bibles printed so all men could have one. It taught that Jesus was the one who died for our sins.
God did not need to introduce the whole plan at that time.He just started to bring us out of the dark ages.PJ even if our brother does put to much into church history and may live in the past teachings, those who broke away from the catholic church are just like us.
they like us, do not know the whole truth so who are we to bash the reformation.Sir james seems to be educted in this so should we not bash him?
I think the final straw that just made Luther decide to challenge Rome, was indulgences.
Indulgences were pieces of paper that the church would print up that said that a persons sins were forgiven. they were signed by the Pope. If you paid enough money, you could buy one of these indulgences and your sins, or someone elses.
Priests were literally going around in cities and villages telling mothers whose children had died in childbirth that they could get their babies out of the "flames of purgatory" and they would be transported to heaven, if they would just buy an indulgence!
This greatly angered Luther because he knew the money was just for building another cathedral.
And the sad thing is, you can STILL buy an indulgence today!
But theologically the Reformation was about TWO things that Rome taught that CONTRADICTED what the Bible plainly teaches.
1 That we can only be saved by FAITH in Jesus alone.
(Rome teaches faith plus works.)
2. That fallen man is totally unable to come to Jesus, and that God is the one who must save a person.
Here is a quote that explains it better than I can:
"It is wrong to suppose that the doctrine of justification by faith alone, that storm center of the Reformation, was the crucial question in the minds of such theologians as Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, Martin Bucer, and John Calvin. This doctrine was important to the Reformers because it helped to express and to safeguard their answer to another, more vital, question, namely, whether sinners are wholly helpless in their sin, and whether God is to be thought of as saving them by free, unconditional, invincible grace, not only justifying them for Christ's sake when they come to faith, but also raising them from the death of sin by His quickening Spirit in order to bring them to faith." - Michael Haykin
Then you can make it a little clearer, lying is wrong, it is of it's father the devil.
Which lie would you like to start with:
Total depravity ( Lie)
Total inability (Lie)
Irresitible Grace (Lie)
Regenaration then faith (Lie)
You can sum it up with my first response, whatever is not of faith is sin, so the responses in light of that, tell all. If it is of God it will all agree with faith, lies will not produce faith.
