I think it's just saying that when someone reveals themselves as a pig, you shouldn't wallow in the mud with them. It's possibly saying that it's not good to compromise your beliefs/morals, even if it's to witness to someone. Your duty is to God first, then to your fellow man. :peace::peace: Post Reply

Matt. 13:45-46 refers to a pearl being the kingdom of heaven, a treasure of great value. In Jewish culture, swine = pigs were unclean animals and were not to be eaten. So I believe the pigs are anyone who is closed or hard-hearted toward God. To argue scripture or Biblical principle with someone who has no interest in hearing is like taking a jewel of great value and throwing it in front of the most disgusting creature known, to be trampled and defiled. God's word is much too precious to be subjected to such treatment. Does that help any? Rose Post Reply

Posted : 19 Sep, 2010 11:41 PM The whole 13th chapter is different parables about the kingdom of heaven, so I don't think the meaning of the pearl is in question at all. The more familiar parable is the one of the sower and the word (seed) falling on different kinds of soil. Only one soil was good. I'm not a Bible scholar, but in context of the whole chaper, I think the meanings are pretty set. Can you ask your pastor? Rose Post Reply

One way that we can defile something is to use it of context. When we misuse what God has given us, it shows a lack of respect and discernment and a misunderstanding of His provision and goodness. I would liken casting pearls before swine to handing off your engagement ring to your pet for a chew toy! That would be so disrespectful of your fianc�! We're called to be good stewards of our possessions, our time, and so many other things. We must use these things as God wills and not foolishly squander them. I don't disagree w/ what Mercy, InHisHonour, and Rose said, but I think the application is broader. For example, we should not have sex before marriage. Sexual intimacy is a beautiful gift from God that is given to married couples and we defile that when we compromise our sexuality by having sex before marriage. There are many other applications as well, but I'm sooo tired and too lazy to formulate my thoughts on this any further! haha... Post Reply
