criminal punishment?

On a Christian radio station I listen to the topic of criminal punishment was talked about for some time. The question is are long prison sentences biblical? The host a few preachers he was able to ask the question said, no. When we look in the bible at the law, the punishment for breaking the law was executed quickly. The gross crimes were always punishment by death and the lesser ones were some sort of a payment. Early in US history it was this way, when a man was sentenced to death he was executed by the end of the week not after 10 yrs of appeals. Prisons are a breeding ground to harden more criminals and does not rehabilitate.

Are long prison sentences biblical?

BTW This is not an endorsement for inhalation. I still firmly believe in an eternal hell for the unsaved. Yeah, they get to live forever, and living forever by no means is a privilege for them.

I spent several years in prison and I agree Mr Row,prisons do not rehabilitate and the recidivism rate is like 98%.If anything, these young kids go in there for selling weed, and learn how to be better criminals when they get out(some of them never get out).

Also, death row inmates should get one appeal and be put to death quickly after so as not to be a burden on taxpayers

just like everything else though, our government has made a business out of crime.

I will say ,however, prison was a positive experience for me in many ways, you can hear Gods voice better when you have time to think.

Steve,

Having come to Christ while serving two flat in prison, I agree with you. You will never have the same opportunity out here to study and meditate like you do inside.

Be blessed,

Leon

Mr. Row, I do agree that the guilty need to pay.I am for swift judgement when it is witnessed by many people.

However, on occasion a innocent person is on death row.

They should have the right to appeal.

In the 1030's some people were put in life for prison for stealing bread.yes, right here in the USA. I do feel are prison system needs a second look.

Hello everyone:

I also have done time, and Yes I admit that I Had done the crime, and time.

The penal system in this country is not to help those within the system,it is there to keep people with work.

To the chagrin of others the death penalty is a deterrent to crime.

If the killers, women violators/rapi-ts,and violent crimes people were executed swiftly, there would be a tremendous drop in crime.

The following NEW COVENANT Scriptures attest to the Old Covenant Law.

Where are the naysayers today.hahahaha

Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

Rom 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Rom 13:5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

There needs for change:

Yet the very criminals making and writing the laws ,will never put themselves under the same laws which they want the rest of the population to be under.

For this reason lets us go therefore and make disciples of every nation.

Watchout the FEMA camps are waiting for us.
