John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
My Notes: Those who follow "The Law" now, Jesus is telling them they are walking in darkness, but if they repent and follow him they have the light of life.
Jesus Defends His Self-Witness
13 The Pharisees therefore said to Him, You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true. 14 Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me. 17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me. 19 Then they said to Him, Where is Your Father? Jesus answered, You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. 20 These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.
My Notes: For Jesus went about teaching of Faith in him for Salvation. He was heeling those whom had Faith in him to heel them. Showing proof that it is Faith in Him that Christ taught and lead people to. The Pharisees followed the Law. As we see in the passage above, Christ rebuked them, telling them, Yet he does not Judge. For the Law judges as they are judging. Thus, Christ is leading people away from the Law and to follow him.
John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
My Notes: As we see here in verse 8, Jesus told them directly that He is the light of the world, not the Law.
John 8:15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 And yet if I do judge,
My Notes: Here Jesus tells them they Judge after the Flesh(Law), and his way judges no man. The way of Grace. For Pharisees are Law followers. They hold true to the ways of the Law. Seeking their Salvation through following the Law, and animanl sacrafics for their forgiveness.
Mathew 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon. 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! But wisdom is justified by her children.[c]
My Notes: Proof of Christ not following "The Law"
Continued in Mathew:
Woe to the Impenitent Cities
Math 11:20 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 21 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be[d] brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.
Jesus Gives True Rest
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
My Notes: Jesus rebuked them for being Law followers and not repenting ( repenting here, meaning turning from following abd beleiving in "The Law " for their Salvation, and beleiving in him for their Salvation.
Matthew 12
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!3 But He said to them, Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? 6 Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. 7 But if you had known what this means, I desire mercy and not sacrifice,[a] you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord even[b] of the Sabbath.
Healing on the Sabbath
9 Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?that they might accuse Him. 11 Then He said to them, What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. 13 Then He said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. 14 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
Behold, My Servant
My Notes: more proof that Jesus did not hold to following "The Law" but the Father.
Jesus did not hold to following the Laws to show the people that "The Law" has no more power. That all power has been given to him. Thus, following "The Law" is worthless. Following Christ is what Christ points us to.
John 8:21 Then Jesus said to them again, I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come. 22 So the Jews said, Will He kill Himself, because He says, Where I go you cannot come? 23 And He said to them, You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. 25 Then they said to Him, Who are You? And Jesus said to them, Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. 26 I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him. 27 They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father. 28 Then Jesus said to them, When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. 29 And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him. 30 As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.
The Truth Shall Make You Free
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered Him, We are Abrahams descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, You will be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
My Notes: Notice verses 31-36 Jesus tells them to abide in his word, and that if he(The Son of God)sets them free from "The law" they are free indeed. In otherwords we are all a Slave to sin if we beleive we are a slave to sin through following "The Law" But now through him (Christ) we have been set free. Christ sayd this himself to the Jews, who followed "The Law" They beleived in him (Christ) So to seek ones forgiveness, means one is guilty because of "The Law" Meaning you do not beleive as Christ said, If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed. Would Not being set free from sin, mean your sin is no longer held against you? Or is Christ a lier?
